  • I used a cable tie to get the brake cable to stay down, unsure how long it will last - but seems to keep the axle away from it. Should probably use something stronger, suggestions? Wire? Thicker ziptie..? Seems like a bit of an oversight from cannondale, can definitely see this having an effect on braking (would be fine if it was full hydro i guess)

    Fucking jagwire cable kit outers arent long enough to do a 58cm disc frame f+r so will have to go get some more outer tomorrow...

    edit: also should have gone for 27c open paves. thought the 25c were going to come up bigger on these rims. oh well

  • yep as that is what they came with, I now realise I need some sort of extra long bolts + spacers to fit the TRP HY/RD brakes.. grrrrrrr. For some reason I have 4 x post to IS adaptors though

    OR do I just get some 140mm rotors? I mean I am 6ft3 and 85kg so a little extra power might not be awful?

  • Actually even 140mm on the rear is way too powerful already.

  • was actually thinking I prefer the look of the smaller rotors. I run 160s on my 29er and never had a problem stopping so yes agreed 160 on a road bike would almost certainly be overkill for myself

  • It would be, even after two years of riding with disc brakes predominately, it's still very tricky not to lock up the rear during an emergency stop.

  • It's not creaky because it's not fucked yet.

    I think I probably could have worked that out myself. And the CAAD X has creaked since new, and had a new BB, so if they can't even be fitted properly by Cannondale who can you trust?

  • If you do use sugru could you go over the bb rather than under? Looking at your photo I reckon this would yield a less aggressive bend in the outer? Not sure what clearance is like though

  • Great idea with the zip tie. Was that a Jagwire XL or regular cableset?

    Much less faff

    The 140 I've got on the rear of mine is good enough - I locked it up (purposefully) a few times last night under heavy braking

  • only issue with that is the lack of material to "bind" the cable to. Think I am just gonna run with the zip tie, plus a second smaller zip tie as a backup

  • Also, on lever pull. My 105 setup with Spyre is very quick to bite. Before resetting everything try adjusting the barrel adjuster on the calliper until you get rubbing and then back it off slightly? May just be a combination of cables bedding in and stretching along with squishy outer?

  • Yeah, can you not just adjust the cable tension to bring the moving pad closer? Or will having one pad closer than the static pad fuck shit up? My bad if so. Get some Spyre @dick

    Anyway, I'm happy now
    Tweaked the brakes last night, caused a little rub when out of the saddle really putting the hammer down on some sprinty bits of regents (and when a guy on an S5 tried racing me up and over from Camden to Holloway on the way home.....) but other than that, they work, the bike is nice, I guess part of the flex and rub can be attributed to shit wheels, but I'm not spending any more money on it now.
    I will be investigating the spindle/cable rub early next week and only then will I consider some revisions if I find the spindle or cables visibly worn/marked.
