Thoughts on using frame saver or similar products on new steel frames? Is it worth it?
-
• #106454
Frame saver divides opinions :)
Some do, some don't.I just go with a good dose of WD40 down the tubes and through the small breather holes.
But i also remove the seatpost if leaving the bike unused or actually make sure it isn't full of water after a dirty race or i have jet washed it (instant death for full suspension pivot bearings and sram BB's) -

Current Fauxnago fixed TT machine. Might actually do a 25, medium gear 25 and a 10 this year.

Has anyone got a cheap cassttee 700c wheel set they're willing to sell for cheap.
Doesn't matter what speed as it's going on a ss build. Thanks

Yeah they are weird aren't they? I've never tried anything like that, it's just pretty close and sounds odd. I like spinning so maybe it'll be ok...
Edit: just did the maths, 120 rpm for an hour. Maybe not.

There's no pain quite like Medium Gear. I've done a few 10s, but doubt I could handle a 25. And I prefer them oldschool, i.e. no TT bars.
Get short cranks. Tester managed to beat me when he put <155mm on.

Heh. Struggled to find something I liked with reasonable puncture protection in a 32mm.
No doubt by the time I've worn these out everyone will have mahoosive tyres available. WLTB Michelin Pro 4 Endurance in a 32mm

Can you get a fork chromed? Ie an old steel painted one that needs a facelift? It's a very short steerer (116mm) so finding a new chrome one is proving difficult.
-
• #106468
There's a chroming thread on here somewhere.
I've just sent an email to a local plater for a quote on frame and forks, I'll let you know the outcome.

You can always get one with a longer steerer and cut it down to fit. It's harder the other way around.

Never used threaded forks before, its on the girlfriends bike, so sorry if I'm asking stupid questions... Generally, will a lbs have the tools to cut a threaded fork correctly?

Depends on the shop, but it shouldn't be hard to find one which has the required die.

LMNH in Old Street have one. I'm taking a fork there tomorrow for steerer shortening.

Surprisingly most of the older Evans stores (as in not newer than 5-6 years ago) have this tooling. Unless they've recalled them. Was standard workshop kit at one stage.

Not all that surprising given that they used to build frames on the premises at The Cut.

Picked up this the other day
Ego tubing,
Plan was to finish it all off with DA7700 parts.
Unfortunately it's far smaller than expected so I'm now in two minds, sell it again quick before getting too attached or build it up with a 130mm stem and loads of seatpost
I <3 deliveries
