We need more key opinion leaders like Justin Trudeau.

Without wanting to move the thread away from very usefully highlighting a problem with women cycling specifically, that article is very irritating. I agree with JT that we shouldn't be afraid of the word, but the whole "argument from dictionary": anyone-who-believes-in equality-is-a-feminist is incredibly tedious and annoying.

My girlfriend once overtook a guy on the road (just because that guy was slow) he then jumped a red light to finally put himself in front of her while riding then did spit on her.
I mean seriously.
Thing is she comes back with similar stories pretty often and yet its 2016.
Things you guys have to put up with ..
Some right arseholes out there -

Yesterday, waiting at the lights, a guy in a van on the next lane starts honking his horn, opens a window. I didn't quite catch what exactly he had to say about my ass for all the honking but the idea was quiet clear anyway. Not that it matters but I was wearing sexy baggy shorts on top of sexy worn out leggings and a sexy sexy college shirt.

You're right. It doesn't matter.

"Sometimes when I get home, I tell my boyfriend about the persistence of interactions like this, the pervasiveness of it. He seems aghast, but I get the feeling that he, like of a lot of men, think I’m exaggerating.
I can’t entirely blame him; most people have a hard time grasping the gravitas of a situation until they, themselves, have experienced it. He’s never seen this happen in public. He’s never had it happen to him.
And, of course, he has told me to just ignore it because that seems like the most logical approach. When you ignore things, they go away, right?"
"“Seriously, stop being nice to him. You’re making it worse.”
This conclusion exhausts me because we have been over this and he should know better and I am tired of holding the hands of men in my life while also keeping my fists clenched as men I don’t know penetrate my space and expect my time.
It’s also decidedly untrue. He doesn’t know what makes it worse, because he hasn’t lived it every day. He has gathered much less anecdotal data than I have."
"It happens regardless of what I’m wearing, regardless of how I feel, regardless of how I move through the world. It’s not what I do and it’s not how I act. It is my presence — and just that!"

This is good and exposes the usual victim-blaming.

Don't wanna put anyone off their brunch but...
This angered me this morning.
Made me feel embarrassed to work in the industry.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/567464943318095/?fref=tsThere's more to it than the screenshot.
If anyone feels so inclined, they could probably click around and find out which shops to avoid / leave bad yelp reviews on or whatever the etiquette is. I'm at work right now but I'll be having a snoop later.

^ a funny thing about bs like this is that one of the main reasons I ever started learning to do my own bike mechanics was not being dependent on this kind of people. After being talked down to in so many bike shops decided not to give them my money any more.

Normally I get left alone when I'm commuting, which I am thankful for. However, on Friday, I was riding my Brompton around the Capital Ring (from Brent Reservoir to Wimbledon) and amassed:
-"nice butt" (yelled from car window) - Brent
-"smile" (from jerks that were taking up the whole width of a path and only grudglingly moved over for people coming the other way) - Northwick
-"lucky saddle" accompanied by peddaling hand motions - Greenford
-"Big up that brompton China girl" - Richmond -

Do you mean 'couldn't'? Auto-correct seems to change intended meanings like that quite a lot.
Oh not me then. I just remember earlier I stopped at the lights then a girl stopped to my left and I looked at her bike(can't remember details but similar colour/style). I then turned away and noticed someone jump the lights as our lights went green and said famblous/wonderful/awesome/nailed it/congratulations/yay as I do...
I do wonder sometimes if my random talking to myself as I cycle is misconstrued.
