  • SRAM do a BB30 that has a sheath so theres no chance that there will be any rub on the chainset spindle.

  • I think that's a PF30 - I'm not sure of the compatibility, but finding a bb with a removable sheath that fits 30mm spindle is a good idea

    IMO currently everyone in bike sales is saying that if you want advantage of disc brakes you have to pay extra, that shouldn't be the case once its spread widely. I am waiting for that.

    Kind of what iPhone did with innovation and you had to cough up £300+ for a phone for few years (now even more) but now you can get all that plus more for less than half price.

    I thought that the performance of these calipers, considering their Ultegra level standard, would be Ultegra level performance.
    Maybe I'll try hydro next month. Maybe I'll just spend the money on some better wheels.

  • ok then find me DA level disc brake for say £200 (still £60 more than what you can get DA9000 rim brake pair for). Everything included.

    More or less, in this case, aftermarket brakes actually do have a significant improvement over the big brand offering, you won't get the exact same sharp bite like you would a rim calipers brakes, but the advantage of the sheer power outweigh the need for those sharp modulation*.

    *actually you can get it, but you need to get the right mix of components to get that feel.

    I really hammered it up and down Swaines last night and despite only doing about 15km really pushed the brakes as hard as I could, and they reacted exactly They should.

    They weren't super sharp like the 9000's on the Trek, which ironically I think have got sharper since really dialling them in with carbon rims, but they just worked. Well. And stopped me.

    I'm going to try and really fine tune them before going out tonight, but I think I'm being unnecessarily picky.

    I think I'm also going to scrap the 160rotor on the front and see if a 140 helps me dial in a little better.

    Ultimately I've only ridden the bike once for 15km, so I should probably give it a bit of time and a proper road test.

  • just get some rs685's - I tried every cable type (bb7,hy/rd/trp/cx77) and then bit the bullet and got hydraulics.... If you was still up north I have a spare pair you could borrow.

    What part of the DA? the braking power? the weight? the modulation?

    All of them beat DA when it come to sheer stopping power.

    The good news, is that once you refitted the housing with compressionless and solved the BB issues, the modulation gap between your 9000 and the disc brakes will be smaller.

    I made one for my di2 CAAD10 out of some plastic sheeting bent into a tube. The bend causes it to push outwards away from from the spindle and keeps the cables out of harms way.

    It's definitely BB30 it's in my Supersix, its essentially a shrunken down PF30 as the PF30 has a larger diameter.
