  • I remember trying to route a cable with the Synapse and was pretty difficult to make the rear brake feel smooth.

Did you use compressionless with this? if so, how was the process?

  • Mate, I lost my temper and gave up with it - took it to the guys at SBC.

Disc brakes are new to me, I like my rim brakes very hard and responsive - as close the the rim as possible, no pull in the levers.
I couldn't get the discs anywhere near without the levers touching the bars, was really fucking pissing me off. SBC dialled the reach on my levers and they're still only just off the bars at full pull.
A bit disappointed by the frame, and disc brakes by that standard, I was hoping for super responsive super firm feel and very sure footed braking like I get from my Da9000 rim brakes.

    Nope.

    Nowhere close.

    Any hints/tips?

  • As said, hydraulic.

You've gone from the pinnacle of rim brakes to a low tier disc option, not really a valid comparison.

  • Any hints/tips?

    • Yokozuna Reaction housing.
    • BB7 or TRP HY/RD.

It's entirely possible to make it feel like a full hydraulic with cable operated brakes, I've done that on several customer bicycles.

Lastly, and importantly (think you already knew this), wear in the pads as much as you can, and you'll get a drastic improvement in braking performance, first time on new pads felt like riding through a wet puddle on a rims brakes.

  • compressionless housing?
