Any leftfield suggestions for a £1k car that can handle a motorway?

My car has died at the worst time, I'm right in the middle of my grad show project and need to get up North

Budget XJ6 or XJ8?

XJ prices are insanely low for what you get, so if you're going to spend £1k on a car for motorways you might as well sit in a nice, quiet, comfortable, fully-equipped place while pretending you're a '90s Prime Minister ;)

B5 passat or 2000s mazda 6 both are dead cheap now and most things that go on then can be found in a scrappy for some notes
