  • I have a torque wrench but it isnt huge. I would really like these cranks to be silent (don't think I have ever had a silent bb/crankset combo on my road bike ever). What BB should I buy? Surely they are all largely similar as they are just bearings?

  • which year are these ones? need to work out the spacer orientation on that hollowgram compatibility sheet

  • It's not so much which bearings you buy as to how you install them.

Some say grease the cups, some say loctite them, some say they're gonna creak in a month regardless...

...I'll be standing right by you on this journey to creak-less CAAD10 disc, as if there's one thing which sends me under, it's a creaky BB.....

  • They're the latest Si ones, so 109mm spindle, washers both sides, lots of washers, the top example on the Cannondale comparability sheet.

  • What BB should I buy?

Start with plain old BB30 bearings. See how you get on.

I had the token tiramic in my CAADX - survived much cross without a squeak.

The SRAM Force BB in my CAAD9 BB30 never made as much as a click over thousands of miles.

I'm not going to embarrass myself again by explaining which spacers you need where, but you should have quite a few, because the 109mm axle is designed to fit BB30a frames too, which have a 73mm BB shell.

  • If my BB creaks or clicks, expect a fire sale.

  • Do you need them on both sides?

  • I'm hoping my praxis bb with DA cranks will make up for my lack of cannondale crank beauty and be silent at the same time. Heard pretty good things about the BB.

  • Praxis BB's are excellent, however, check the internal cable routing guides inside the BB shell.

A friend with that same CAAD10disc as me had to cut away all the internal guides to fit the shell of the Praxis BB for his DA cranks.

  • No, but they swap sides depending on crank / axle. This was the cause of the comedy of the last couple of pages.

  • haha I was aware of the risks of BB30, but thought it could never be as bad as the shimano external BBs I kill within a few months...

  • and yes thanks for advice howard will be referring to the table before fitting. although will be getting a shop to fit the bb perfectly

  • I'm running the same. Fit and forget, not a peep from it and it's been in some serious rain and mud

  • I was recommended these by my LBS to fit 6800 cranks to my CAAD10. Anyone else used them?

  • Couldn't you fix that with an inverse shim?

  • Seen others use the same BB in the same frame so it shouldn't be an issue.

  • I've heard that the praxis one is the best solution for running a shimano crank. Praxis offer the BB/adapter as one, rather than two separate things.

  • The shimano external BBs I kill within a few months...

    woo boy...

  • Got all the required tools in Bristol if you want to borrow any

  • There are few woes an inverse shim cannot fix

  • I'd try these, and if they result in squeaks and creaks then go for something more industrial strength.

  • Is it bad form to ask what kind of price I should be asking/expecting for this supersix I'm selling? 58, 10 speed force, superstar/Reynolds 66/46 wheels. Not a scratch on it apart from a touch of tyre rub under the fork crown and behind the bb

Planning on going the gumtree or eBay route as I need maximum funds from the sale

  • joined the dale club by picking up this old caad4 couple of months back. rolled on it for the first time today and pleased with the feel. but need to sort out grouppo and wheels and possibly lose some of the original cannondale finishing kit. plan to lighten this a tad. but buying parts that will ultimately get passed across to a better frame

  • anyone got a pair of hollowgram bolts with their respective steel washers? green would be nice but can also be black

  • Get in the queue for the black ones!
