Thru axles. They are from burly mtb/jump bikes right? Why are they needed on the road?
because disc, because sales, because uci etc.
Because discs need to be kept straight (not much room between pads) and thru axles make the fork/wheel setup more rigid, so your discs don't rub, squeak, etc.
