Brakeless fixie biek, problem solved!
-
• #478
You could try a reducer? Might be easier to have someone machine one in the UK...
Same idea as SP have for their 15mm hubs if you want QR
-
• #479
I struggle to stop WITH brakes, fuck that.
-
• #480
Any experience with these? Or do you know of anyone who has raced stupid ultra shit (SUS) with an adapter?
-
• #481
I know people who've used the SP 15-QR adapter for fairly-long-distance-shit and will be building one up in the next month or two. No experience with eBay version.
This guy mentions a dynamo and looks to be using a Revo but not the actual set up, might be worth trying to contact, unless the 2015 fork was sensible 15mm axle or something... http://cyclistory.com/bikes/specialized-diverge-comp-carbon-2015/

• #482
I've not written anything off yet.
-
• #483
Yep the 2015 fork uses a 15mm thru.
-
• #484
Thru axles. They are from burly mtb/jump bikes right? Why are they needed on the road?
-
• #485
because disc, because sales, because uci etc.
-
• #486
Because discs need to be kept straight (not much room between pads) and thru axles make the fork/wheel setup more rigid, so your discs don't rub, squeak, etc.
-
• #487
Damn, that whole article sounds like a massive ball ache.
I don't want this much hassle. Machining shit to work, etc.
Am I going to be fooked if I decide to use this SCS crap? Fuck.

Thought it was more for security of the hub when it comes to rigid forks... Read a few (non scientific) things that suggest there's not much difference when it comes to rigid forks e.g. http://www.singletracks.com/blog/mtb-gear/rigid-fork-shootout-qr-open-dropout-vs-thru-axle/

"thru-axles tie the fork or frame together in a much stronger, stiffer way"
I don't believe reviews that are based on rider feel. If he had some kind of device measuring flex in the fork legs I'd pay more attention to it. Maybe it doesn't make any diff. in rigid forks but without data it's not swaying me either way.
-
• #491
Yeah. I've been trying to find science, not having much luck.

The 400km last year side by side with a Cannondale disc. His hands were shakey mine not. I was riding in the mud he in the road. Tyre pressure.

• #493
You sure you need something you have never tested only because it is better?
-
• #494
This is Ed Pickup's TransAm Pivot Vault, running a SON dyanmo. 15mm thru axle works by default with the dynamo I guess.
-
• #495
There's likely a reason all the MTBs went to thru-axle. If it's stiffer with suspension forks it 'could' be stiffer with rigid forks. Since most newer road disc bikes are coming with thru axles it seems silly to go backwards to QR, regardless of the actual flex values.

• #496
Minimal diff in geo of Vault and Datum btw.
-
• #497
Are you a Datum reseller or something?
-
• #498
There are no small framesets at the moment so he's trying to live vicariously through someone taller...

this .. plus I love Genesis

"second carbon model"
Out.
Basically one less thing to worry about.
Even Mike managed to stay on the same pads for the entire circumnavigation of the globe.
