I now have the details for Wayne’s funeral. It will be held at Manor Park Christian Centre on Monday 29th Feb at 2pm. There will then be a short service just for Wayne’s immediate family at the Crematorium at 3.30 and then back to Manor Park Christian Centre by 4pm to join the other mourners and light refreshments. Manor Park Christian Centre is a big church so all of Wayne’s friends are very welcome to come and say goodbye and celebrate his life. I’m finding it hard to let all of his friends within the design world know the details so I’m hoping that you’ll be able to forward this to his friends at The Partners etc and that they in turn will be able send it onto others. Wayne’s sister has asked me for an estimation of how many people may want to come so that she can make sure there is enough catering. If people think they might want to come please can they let me know and I’ll pass the final numbers onto her by Monday next week. If people want to come but can’t let me know by then it doesn’t matter at all, it’s just a rough guide.
As for flowers, Wayne’s family have asked for family flowers only and that instead they have asked for donations to be made to a good cause close to Wayne's heart. To be honest there wasn’t much thinking needed. Wayne loved cycling and was always trying to encourage kids to take up the sport that had given him such enjoyment and friendship. I truly believe that cycling brought a sense of belonging and peace in to Wayne’s life and he wanted to make sure that everyone else had the same opportunities it had afforded him.
Herne Hill Youth Cycling Club is an organisation set up to encourage cycling for children of all ages. The club is often a haven for kids who may not always 'fit in' within their own school environments and offers an outlet and friendships for children of all backgrounds. Any money donated on Wayne’s behalf would go to supporting their ongoing activities to ensure no one who wants to go along is excluded on financial grounds.
They don't have any fundraising web page set up but if anyone wanted to make a donation they can do so directly into the clubs bank account with the reference Wayne Peach
