After Suarez strikes the ball it's never within playing distance of Messi, Messi makes no attempt to play the ball, nor is he obscuring the ball from the keeper, so he can't be offside within the current interpretation of the rules.
But it's complicated because of FIFA/UEFA adding misleading "clarifications" on top of a badly worded law: http://www.law-11.com/untitled/confusion-caused-by-uefa-ifab-not-agreeing-on-law-11
