What's the concensus on Church's shoes these days? I want some classic brown brogues and can get a pair of Chetwynds for £105...

Ta, I had seen that one, perfect colour but the buckle/ring looks a bit cheap on the model.

Even if you preferred the equivalent quality from other brands they would be a multiple of that price. Looks like a very decent shoe for £105. I usually wear brogues with jeans so that leather finish would be a bit smooth for my taste, and the brogue/colour would stop me wearing it with a suit. In short not casual enough for a casual style imo.

That price is cheaper than some of the Church's factory shop seconds. They do cut corners by using corrected grain leathers and Prada have pushed them into making some vile shoes but overall they still make a good quality shoe that you will get years of use from.

Thanks chaps, this is for a country wedding with a navy suit and I'm not a massive fan of plain oxfords so I'm happy with the finish/style/colour. The main thing is that splashing out is going to result in a shoe that lasts a very long time!

Good choice, is this a one off deal or you have a way we can all get Church's for this sort of money.

One-off deal, I'm afraid - won some store credit with a hideous christmas jumper!

I got a pair of used chetwynds from T.O on here a few months ago but they're a bit too small for me (I'm a narrow 11 so I'm guessing these are a 10/10.5)
if anyone's interested at £55 posted? -

Meermins arrived yesterday. https://www.meermin.es/articulo.php?idArt=4147 They are for the office, with a suit.
First impressions were that I don't agree with what folk said on here about them being 'much higher quality than Loakes etc' but they are of a good quality and come in at a great price (they are put together in China after all). Out the box they were rather stiff, but have softened up a bit already. Ventured out into a howling gale at lunch time with no qualms about wet feet.
Overall very impressed.

Went on the hunt for a pair of lightweight synthetic soled shoe-a-likes to wear on the bike, and not look too messy after locking up. Pretty much failed, admitted defeat for the day. Not quite what I wanted, but I grabbed a pair of these in black for £23 in the local outlet.

Even if they're no good for the bike, they feel totally okay for messing about in, when I don't want to wear the leather soled stuff.

Lovely!

Yeah, I think so too. I have high hopes they will age well. Will be great to get a leather sole on them eventually .

nice Aldens

Nice Aldens indeed!
Finally fixed something temporary for the few pairs I have. Pieces of an old chest of drawers. Quite okay with the limited space in this room.
Quick snap, have since tidied the gap by the plug and shoved the para boots in there.

Neats foot oil or something similar. Anything that has horse or mink oil in it does a great job.
