Trying to put frame and forks together on SS Evo HM. Crown race doesn't seem to want to go down to the base of the steerer tube. Am I missing something?

Have you got a crown race setting tool? (or length of pipe and a hammer)

Is that's what is needed - just to bash it down? It doesn't look like it is particularly close to being able to fit the extra cm or so.

Yes but you need the crown race tools to do it properly

It's designed to be an interference fit - you'll need the correct tool* to fit it, it won't just push down using finger force.

*I have used lengths of pipe that fit over the steerer for this purpose previously, but now have the correct tools.

Bah. I'll be getting lbs to fit cables anyway - might as well chuck that part in too. Cheers anyway.

I've used a 31.6 seatpost to good effect before, but needs to be an old 1" steerer. Yeah, get lbs to do it.

I'm sure it will. I read so much about tyres and I just don't get it. Zaffiros are good enough for my amatureness.

£70 on tyres will transform that bike.
