Maybe too late, but my personal preference is to train to Slough and go from there. Two nice routes - either start off south through Eton - then Henley>Goring>Wallingford>Stadhampton
Or - go North via Marlowe > Christmas Common (which is a really lovely climb and descent) > Watlington.
I do plenty of riding to/from/around Oxford so let me know if any more ideas needed...
