"appropriate power" is an interesting discussion point... My view is that more is more when it comes to output headroom. I appreciate that not everyone agrees, however I'm happy with the results of the "power first" philosophy, arrived at through trial and error, before I'd read stuff like this:
Interesting, I am rather more of the opinion that the first watt is by far the most important. Although I favour very easy to drive/sensitive full range drivers...
I'm sure that is equally valid. I did once consider valves or class A and high sensitivity speakers but never got round to doing anything about it. I would be interested to hear that kind of set up.
