Oh and yeah, b+m front lights have an "out" for a rear light. I'm getting the son rear light for my new bike cause its 100% less ugly than b+m ones but have done 1000s of happy miles with my b+m toplight rear light.

Toplights are ace! Mine is a 'brake light'. So good.

Son hub running edelux II is a splendid combo. No worries from now on about the light.

thank you bb! tru say, they aren't half ugg. it's pretty chunky but if it does the job, i'm not too fussed. the son rear light looks supa cute but supa tiny?!
frame will have internal routing but not the forks sadly, not too much of a problem as i'm planning on doing what you did on your surly forks (#inspo).

Just got the forum favourite pd-8 and luxor u. I didn't seem to come with the connector for the wires to the hub. Is this something I have to buy separately? Does anyone have a link to a manual/ tutorial? Thanks.

@Mentats, you can find the Luxos-U manual here.
According to that, the cable to connect the dynamo are included with the light, but are not connected (spare here if needed). The spades go on the light, the bare ends go in one of these that should have come with the SP dynamo.
All those parts should have been included so maybe hassle the shop if they haven't been. -

Excellent thank you! Looks like I am missing the connector

The SP connector is a standard Shimano one with a different logo. I'd suggest checking ebay before you throw money at SJS - they're P&P is appreciable on small parts!

looking to build up a dynamo wheel setup for potential overnighters in the summer... I have a SA X-FDD hub (36h) and looking to get everything else (light and USB charger) under £60 if possible. It looks like this puts the forum favourite combo of e-werk and iq2 (is that right?) out of reach... it seems like the charger is the one to be sure not to skimp on, and this looks like the cheapest I can find the e-werk is about £48.
Any recommendations or nudges toward a different direction welcome (or offers of cheaper used kit?) -

SON and SP make 15mm thru-axle dyamos for disc wheels, right?
Does anyone make them for 12mm thru-axle disc-brake wheels?

Shutter precision.

• #463
So you ordered the diverge?
-
• #464
Got a link? I can only see their 15mm ones.
-
• #465
Nope.
Fucking thru axles, fucking discs, fucking dynamos...
-
• #466
yep I am going to give it a couple more years to let discs in my life (again).
-
• #467
I don't think anyone currently makes a 12mm thru for Dynamo, I was going to buy a bike but couldn't find any options apart from 15mm and 9mm, so went with something else. Might be wrong though.

Am i overthinking this?
Yes, as cornelius said, literally fit and forget.
Just add those security QR to it and you're game.

Frame will have internal routing but not the forks sadly.
How come? carbon?

ja

Yes.
No. -

The only reason I'm actually considering the hideous things is hand/arm fatigue during a 2-3 week race with mega descents. Read lots of TransAm reports about people struggling to even change gears by the end of it.

• #474
You need it. Have you written off Datum then?

Discs also self adjust, so saves you having to adjust. Also they last for ever, so no need to change pads.
I have the b+m front light you speak of and went bike deep in a bog so no worries about CX on it, and yeah, will your frame have internal routing? If so no worries at all for nicking, but you can use sugru to jam up the torx bolt when everything's in place, or even better use a ball bearing and araldite (araldite is good as it sticks everything in place but can be removed using acetone if you decide to reverse the process).
And the lights I said about were exposure lights :)
