halfway there. just wanted to leave this here as prior to build i could not fint this info anywhere: the rd-m772 xt rear derailleur clears the 12-36 casette out of the box. will have to see about shifting performance, but it should be fine as it is a 9sp mech.
big thanks to @Agatee for the chainset - it looks great!
(sorry about the shite pic but i don't have a flash and the light comes from the window above the bike......)

Was going to say they looked my cranks!
Looking forward to seeing this finished.

Any progress with this?

yes! it is finished but i'm having problems with the hydraulic converter as hope uses dot fluid but shimano uses mineral oil. there's a trp parabox system installed now but i'm away from home until the 2nd of aug so it is waiting for me in the shed. will update thread when the bike is ready to roll.

this is the result - need to install front mudguard, cut steerer and fine tune the parabox, but otherwise done.
hello all
a friend of mine who does a lot of touring asked me to build him a road tourer (after i convinced him that cycling on tarmac on a mountain bike with suspension isn't such a good idea).
he found a soma double cross frameset on ebay and ordered the parts for it - it will be a 3x10 setup with hydraulic discs.
5703 shifters and front mech
xt 9sp rear mech
xt hubs and brakes
mavic m419 rims, schwalbe marathon tires
hope v-twin converter
deda finishing kit
still waiting for a few bits (rotors, seatpost, racks) but those shouldn't take long..
