  • Pro-ject and rega make great entry level turntables.

  • Reckon it's worth around £120 plus I'll throw in a pair of serviceable Eltax speakers, money to go into son number 1's trust fund (40 quid so far!)

  • Project Debut Carbon (with the Ortofon 2M Red) or Rega RP1 Performance Pack seem to be what most people are going for.

  • Guys, going back to DJ Headphones... How do these compare to HD 25's?

Surely for the price they win hands down £ for £.

  • Thanks guys, having always used secondhand and cheap hifi tables the price was a bit of a shock. Seem totally worth it though.

  • I got a good deal on an ex-demonstrator Debut Carbon so you might be lucky if you shop around.

  • I have pioneer SA8100 amp and thorens turntable but I bought them in the USA will they work ok on UK voltage ?? (just a change of plug) or will i need to do more?

  • pioneer SA8100

I'd be careful, if its the same as this 'un it doesn't look like you can set the line voltage to the UK's 230V (ish).

Dunno about the Thorens TT, which model?

You could still use the amp in the UK but you'd need a step down autoformer or such like.

  • The Beast awakes from it's year long slumber after I moved house. Aw yiss.

  • Phwooooaaaaaarrrr! Top tip.... turn the speakers inwards to one another and turn up loud to blow all that dust off the amp! :) Nice BTW

  • oops, double clicky post.

  • price maybe but theres a reason they are heavily discounted .... they will break in no time , plastic will snap . buy a good secondhand pair of sennheisers off ebay

  • i bought a rega turntable planar 3 sounds amazing , especially 12' in singles . even a secondhand one is worth investing in as all parts can be replaced !

  • Wow. We should have a little readers wives moment.

    What's everyone else listening on?

  • Lovely!

I'm on a tannoy trip. I don't have the money but fancy some new speakers?

Anyone fancy some big, rare, early proacs?

  • :) well ya know what it's like. Listen first, dust later!! Hell it sounds good. Fancy some new speakers now, I used to drive TDL Studio 1 but they're a bit big and also sounded a bit bright. The little standmounters are Mission 780se, I bought 'em new nearly twenty years ago and I'm rather fond... Really quite capable little things.

  • Ooh what pro-acs ya got?

  • What's everyone else listening on?

Albert Collins spinning on the Ariston RD80 through an Angle Audio phonostage and a passive pre and into the Beard P100 mkii. Glass of scotch, on the sofa, blissin rite now.

  • I think they only work in new york loft party vibe settings.

  • yes its the same that, thanks think ill see if i can sell the amp off here.
^ so that's why i can't get it to work i'm too old for loft parties but mainly not NY cool enough.
    #oldmantryingtobedownwiththekidsonafixieyeah!

  • BTW now that I've got the Beard out again, I'm putting my old power amp up for sale. It's an LFD PA0. Damned near as good as the Beard, perhaps even more natural, but not as powerful or as good at consuming electricity / warming your front room up :)

I'll be round in 10. No ice for me thanks.

  • Proac 3. One of the early post-Celef job. I'd love to hear that P100(?) thru them...

You are welcome to try them...
