  • I bump into a chap on my commute who I think is membership secretary at Finsbury Park cycle club, who is always very friendly. They must be local presumably. My club, CC London, is also very good. We meet at East Finchley for club rides and are often at Regent's Park.

  • Great. CC London also does cx I see. I could be up for that.

  • Islington CC is headed up by @Shannonball, formerly of this parish. Regular rides out of Whittington Park on Holloway Rd. Wide range of abilities with a rapidly increasing racing/competing contingent

  • Also great. Thank you.

  • Islington CC and Pretorius each in their own way. Audax Club Hackney has the best drinks.

  • CCH Hackney :-)

  • I didn't think of not being in a club. But I guess a lot more meet and ride is going on in London than where I am from. Great to know. Thank you.

  • Penge CC or SE20 CC

  • Thank you, but I will be Living in Wood green N22

  • Have you thought about going out with Lea Valley CC? They're a sound club. I've never been a member but they seem like a good bunch. A lot of older riders but still a mixture.
Also, every time I've passed one of their club runs it has been tidy and disciplined, which to me says something about the club.

  • Well if you ever do come south...

  • Islington or Finsbury Park. Islington is huge (400+ members) and there can be up to 3 rides a day. All levels are catered for but if you want to race there are plenty of faster training rides.
Try a few clubs out - most let you join a few rides before you commit to membership.

  • Pretorius doesn't require membership subscriptions like most clubs, as it runs shop rides. Because it's free it's good to try out club/group riding without a commitment.

They ride on Saturday mornings and you sign up on the website using Eventbrite. The signup opens on Thursday mornings ahead of that weekend's rides.

  • You would be more than welcome to come to some club runs to see if you like them. Friendly members. Very inclusive club with lots of encouragement if you want to be competitive but no need to be if you don't. Hard and easy laps of Regents park through the week. Lots of coffee. Nice kit. All good.

  • Thank you all. So many options :-)

  • There needs to be a club that has a fast group that doesn't start at 7.30/8am on a sunday. Not all of us have kids/wives who go spare if we're not home in time for lunch.

  • @bashthebox if you join one of the bigger clubs you'd get takers for that ride each week.

  • Is anyone here a member of cadence.cc (ie The crystal palace shop) ? Live really nearby and need some new cycling related motivation and thought this may be good.

I've seen their rides going out and they look a bit pootly, anyone know what the faster groups are like?

  • Very late reply, yes we start at Farnborough Village just outside Orpington, in 1888 Catford was a leafy village on the outskirts of London but as London expanded the rides started further out to get in to the lanes quicker , Mottingham etc now Farnborough
    10am Saturday and Sunday

  • Worth adding, if anyone is North and considering joining Islington CC - I am on the committee and can answer any questions you might have.

  • Does anyone ride with Cadence Performance in Crystal Palace here? Not in the race team, but on the club? Am considering joining them for a Sat ride and was wondering what to expect.

  • Bit of a clique group I've heard from two friends who went out with them. As soon as they got off the main roads the group tried to drop them. Nothing mentioned before about when or where the pace would up just took off. Also said not the most sociable group.

  • Hmmm doesn't sound too promising. I'd like to get involved with a club, and being in Herne Hill it's Cadence or Dulwich - and I don't really fancy the latter. Seems too big and you need to do all the newbie ride stuff. But maybe i should just try it.

  • I'd like to get involved with a club

    why?

  • @Jim1985, I haven't but would be interested to hear how you get on - Cadence is local to me as well and I'd consider going along one week. IIRC they have different grades of ride, which one are you going for?
