Hi oller, a very tasty looking Mercian. Still for sale? Can I check does she have the original paint, or respray? Either way it looks lovely. What's the frame number? I'm guessing its Reynolds 531 frameset and if so, double-butted/plain? Main tubes or throughout? I'm 6'2", so size-wise this could work really well. Are those Campag rear and front dropouts? Excuse battery of questions, I'm in the West country, but could easily pop up to town..
Thanks for your help.

Hi Ray,
It's still going. I'm pretty confident it's the original paint, it's a wonderful metallic blue - with what I believe to be the original decals. There's a few little chips, the most are around the underside of the top of the seat stays.
I'm not sure what the tubing is for the frameset I'm afraid, I can tell you the serial is '96477', which I believe means it was the 964th bike they made in 1977. But I'm unsure what actual model it is. I bought the frameset on ebay about 5 years ago.
The dropouts are indeed campag.
Any other, questions - or if you'd like some more photos, let me know.
Cheers,
David

Hi David, I've sent you a PM, with more details about your Mercian's background. Can I check its still actually for sale - yes?
Best wishes, Ray -

964 bikes in 1977? Sounds like a lot. I would imagine (if I remember correctly) that one of those digits denotes a frame builder there. So: 96th frame built by '4' in 1977. Or something.
Mercian are very helpful if you want to know about a bike with their serial on it.

Absolutely right Skully. I contacted Mercian and they told me frame number 96477 was built in 1977, and a lot of other detail about the actual frame. Tho no detail on whether it was the 96th frame from builder 4. Worth checking. If Oller confirms the bike's still for sale, then I'll chase it up with Mercian on that point..

is this still for sale or what
Built up and ridden a handful of times, just been collecting dust. Another bike has come into the stable so this one has to go.

Spec as follows, pretty much all components are either new or nos :
Size: 60cm Seat Tube CtT, 58cm Top Tube CtC. Serial dates the frameset to ‘77
Frame is in great condition, no dents or dings - straight and true. Paint is a beautiful deep metallic blue, has a few chips, mainly at the top of the seat stays (some of which have been touched up), but all things considered for the age is very good.
Currently has a front brake lever attached, but no front caliper. Some chump nicked the brake off my pub bike and I had to pilfer this one. It is currently set up as fixed though, so can still be ridden away, but I’ll leave the lever on for the next owner’s discretion to remove the lever or replace the caliper.
