Yes it is indeed a fugly junction .. Having a 120mm head tube doesn't help as most medium sized cx frames from everyone else are 140-150mm or so ?
Guess the chinese like short head tube :)

i'm not sure what the correct term is but you can get headsets which have a sloped top bit, sort of eases into the spacers. can make it a little less severe.

Frame actually came with a headset with conical top spacer which as you mention eases the transition but it left a 5mm gap :(
Reckon they sent the wrong top cap or something but yes I may look into one in future once I'm bored with the African neck ring look ;)

I like this build and the explicit self(irony) skillz written.

Cheers I opted out of the easy option to rip off any number of big name brands and give the bike it's own quirky name :)
thats brilliant!
First thing that I pictured upon looking at it :)

Would you mind if I asked where you ordered your rather nice carbon cx frame from, and also if it's still going strong? Thanks

Easy to deal with and prompt to answer queries .:
Yes still going strong 2 years in :) Been regularly thrashed and done the odd race all good .:
Nah too predictable and would look right ;)
Stem with rise looks horrible ... This a wee bit less so :)
