I drilled out and removed the stainless brackets and replaced them with the Berthoud stays. That bike currently has no fenders, but the pictures show one that I was lucky enough to find blank fenders for along with the alu stays. The front used a daruma bolt.
ah, sorry: I just used the one strut, I was surprised how well it supported the fender, but I guess it makes sense in that it's thicker and more importantly, one piece. (SKS has too many parts)
