  • Awesome. In

  • please show this? I'm confused

  • I can't find a good image of it now. I think it was the original font. It's like a silhouette of a sitting dog, facing right with the kicker of the R being it's tail.

  • That's very poignant and perhaps a sad fact of the tech life we live. We feel connected digitally to many more people than would be possible to maintain analogue relationship with. The forum has been a good mix of virtual and real though.

A ride is a great idea and beer (rum?) both of which are core things for many of us on here.

    ...in

    Needs moar Baileys top...

  • I'm reminded of that awesome trip to Berlin for the world polo tourny a few years back...Wayne went massively out of his way to organise a proper bike box for me to bag Kawasaki [kermit to bellends :-p]- I think he borrowed it on my behalf. The aeroplane peeps did this to it:

I wasn't looking forward to telling him but he was cool...none of that farty purple face anger vibe at all. Paid him back via the compo from the insurance for the bike damage.

    Job done gaffer.

  • RIP BDW :(

  • Thanks Stelle and Matt.

  • @stelle - @LongAndWinding and I are in.

  • Hi guys - just a quick update. We are trying to find out the date for Wayne's funeral. We don't have clear details yet.

What we do know is that it will be held at the Manor Park Christian Centre which is a large capacity church.

I know Stelle and Matt are kindly hosting a Bright Times party on 13th at Canopy.

  • Thanks for the update.

I'll be at the party, but quite late (already had fixed plans that eve).

Will be at the funeral no matter when that is.

The background will remain black until the day of the funeral too, it feels appropriate.

  • I'll be there, too.

  • From Ricky:

    Hi

I wanted to drop you a quick note to bring you up to speed with the details of Wayne’s funeral. As you might know Wayne’s sister is making all the arrangements and, as of this morning, she hasn’t yet settled on a date but as soon as she has I’ll let you know.

I do however know that she is looking to have the funeral within the next two weeks and that she wants to hold the service at Manor Park Christian Centre which has a large capacity so it would be great if all of Wayne’s friends could make it to celebrate his life and show how much we loved him.

After the funeral service there will be a small service for the family and a few close friends at East London Crematorium and we will then return to Manor Park to re join everyone else for a finger food buffet.

Wayne had such a huge network of friends that I’m finding it hard to keep track of and keep in touch with so please could you forward this message to anyone who you think would want to come.

The family have asked to keep flowers to family only and that they would prefer that people donated to Wayne’s cycling club. Having spoken to other members of the club we feel that we would rather donations were given to a suitable charity, one that Wayne would have approved of.

Wayne loved cycling and was always trying to encourage kids to take up the sport that had given him such enjoyment and comfort. I truly believe that cycling and the friendships it helped bond brought a sense of belonging and peace in to Wayne’s life as he finally felt at home within the cycling community. Wayne saw first hand how this kinship could change lives and wanted to make sure that everyone else had the same opportunities as he had. Over the next few days I’ll be making the final arrangements for donations and I will share the details shortly.

I’m sorry I don’t have anything more specific at the moment but as soon as I know more I’ll let you know straight away. If you want to know anything more please get in touch.

    Kind regards and many thanks

    Ricky

  • Great - thanks Ved/Ricky

  • Thanks for the update Ved/Ricky

  • Thanks for the update Ved/Ricky.

  • I hadn't see Wayne in years when i heard the news. I'm absolutely gutted. I 1st met him about 10 years ago, before his cycling days, when he was designing the new look for Putney Cycles.

    Ride in peace brother

  • Wayne also did the Putney cycles jersey.

  • I was being dumb, not Rourke, Roberts. This is the font he was re-making at the time. You can see the official newer Roberts version in the very top picture and his re-make of the original has the little dog in the R.

  • Aw crap, I cant make the Bright Times party, fly back on the 14th!
Just had a similar situation to velocio where I was reading pips farty angry purple face story and started laughing.. The bloke next to me said "what you pissing your pants at" so I said "a cycling friend of mine has died..." And had to quickly say "..thats not the funny part" and explain while he looked in horror, haha
Will definitely be there at Manor Park if anyone wants to have a quiet "Wests" pint after (ill bring the darts..)

  • Nice memories there TS. :)
