Get mudguards?
-
• #106209
No, this is going to be a sub 7kg bike. Me and mudguards stopped getting along a few years back.
I don't mind getting wet anyway and generally avoid group rides in the rain nowadays.

SS or fixed?
-
• #106211
I'm going fixed with two brakes, more reliable braking means quicker descending.

• #106212
This is not a MTB.
-
• #106213
Ah yes the memories: that bike on the top of Box Hill in the middle of the night was that the blue Dolan? Pretty sure you were the only with mudguards.
-
• #106214
Ha, busted.
The MTB is already here. Not much of a CP though, it's a Specialised almost unchanged from the stock components other than stem, seat post and saddle.
Awesome to ride though, it handles SO much better than the on one inbred I had before and is probably half the weight.

Does pedal stroke danger make better cornering advantage of wide rims for fixies obsolete or can you lean that much to make them work?
-
• #106216
Yep. The night I went seperate ways with mudguards.
I find that my saddle height is out of the main spray jet from the rear wheel anyway, possibly the only advantage to being a tall bike rider.
-
• #106217
I have no idea, but the BB height is the same as my Dolan and that's fine cornering. Not the same as a road or mountain bike but then I find that's more about how being able to stop pedalling allows you to position yourself than fear of pedal strike.
I just like 25's.

Extra grip is at best a marginal and peripheral advantage of wide rims. Even if you couldn't exploit it on your fixed bike due to pedal strike, all the other benefits are still there.

You sure? But anyway, point being on custom, I shall do a proper cost analysis full hydraulic disc vs. how often can you rebuild HED Belgiums Plus.
