giving up pasta (not such a problem)
I'm been eating brown rice pasta recently and while the window between undercooked and overcooked is tiny and it's definitely not as good as yer normal pasta it's passable as a substitute if you've no other options. may take a couple of goes to get it just right (was very rubbery first time i made it)
i've been having this one...

I'm not sure how helpful this is for everyone and I don't mean it to be "hey guys, why can't you just do this?".
I recently tried to cut out wheat, because psoriasis yeah?, the added benefit of this is that (as long as I avoid buying tasty tasty Nairn's oatcakes) I reduced the amount of rubbish I'm eating at work. It's also helped me avoid the trick of "oh i'll just have a bowl of cereal/sandwich" when I come home from work.
The added advantage is that because I've said I'm "wheat free" at work, I avoid the biscuits. BECAUSE OF THE SHAME OF BEING CAUGHT WITH ONE IN MY MOUTH.
It has meant trying to find wheat free beer (possible), giving up pasta (not such a problem), saying goodbye to pizza (sobs), and giving up on toast (weeps).
This is all pretty manipulative. So as well as replacing wheat with rice cakes (sob) I've got a pressure of not being able to eat cakes in the office.
This sort of touches on the Aeon article up there ^.
