  • Small progress in the mission that is digging through the piles of old parts strewn around the flat. I've one ok-ish big chainring, a 53t with a tooth missing and one of the mounting nuts epoxied back in. It's 130bcd which gives me the option of either 165mm or 175mm cranks. Both my road bikes are 172.5 so I'll probably go with the 175 to start with and experiment with the shorter cranks later on. If i end up having to buy a new chainring I may go a 52t 110bcd so I can use 172.5 cranks.

    I haven't found a braze on front mech or an inner ring yet, although I'm confident I have a coupe of 130bcd 39t rings somewhere as I used to just mash around in the big ring all the time. But as discussed earlier, I don't know if I'll bother with the inner ring anyway.

    I have also managed to salvage a couple of rear derailleurs - I'm being nice and putting the 5700 short cage onto the GFs winter bike which means I'm left with a mid cage 6600 for this - I'm sure I'll negate a load of aero benefits elsewhere with the cage dangling in the wind but i'll run it super tight to minimise the profile and it will do the job (unless I find a buyer for my old Cube frame and go 11spd).

    That's a 12-25 cassette in decent nick too. I might have a 12-23 somewhere too, at least keeping this 10spd will use up all the only slightly worn cassettes we seem to have accumulated.

    I appear to have a load of disc wheels on my eBay watch list for some weird reason...
