As said, you can make a lot of aero gains by changing the nut on the handlebars. Have you got a big mirror you can set yourself up next to? Ideal for looking at your position. Or a big window is nice and reflective when it's dark. Turbo trainer and smartphone taking a movie from the side is also good.
It might not be a bad idea to use those clip on bars to start with if they're cheap. You can use them to find a comfortable position. I chopped up a £15 set so I could mount them where I wanted them and this worked out a lot cheaper than starting with an expensive set and finding they weren't ideal.
