reason i want a 14/15 flyer is - Good geometry for me, compact/ with a tall headtube. Full mounts for mudguards/racks etc. I'm gonna put a disk fork on it and turn it into the ultimate fixed winter commuter

pretty horrendous i admit but i'm not gonna ignore the advice of bike fitter with 20+years of experience. Also the geometry on surlys are pretty backwards

FWIW my missus had TFG Dream Machine and the biggest issue was to take the rear wheel out due to track ends and mudguards combo so a forward facing dropout with mudguards (or rockers) is the best way.

I've decided to get a 2016 Flyer as nothing comes close for what I need. I reluctantly sold a mk1 Salsa Casserole that had the same drop outs and was also deep drop calipers but hey ho. ...
The guards will come off for the summer and a pair of the 32mm Panaracer gravel tyres will go on. The rest of the standard spec will also get swapped straight away.
A wee bar roll from Roadrunner plus my carradice will see it used as a lovely ss tourer/audax on 42x18

Following my bike being stolen looking into replacement commuter/winter bike. Genesis flyer and Day One on my radar.
The Flyer looks to tick all the right boxes.
But wondering if the Day One would make for an interesting change. Any opinions on it? I'm quite new to discs (although have them on a rarely used MTB). Would there be any headaches and faff with track ends, disc brakes and mudguards (e.g. in the event of punctures)? I'd also want to have the option to run it fixed and at a higher gear than it comes with (49x18 or something similar). Any issues with that on a day one, e.g. is it ok running fixed with rear disc?

I'm considering getting a Flyer as a winter trainer, problem is that I cant work out the Geo. Genesis frames seem to come up quite small, is this vaguely correct?
A clubmate has a 2015 Cherry Red Flyer in 56 that I can try, but I worry that the TT will be far too short and the saddle bar drop too much. I'm struggling to work this out from the 2016 Flyer Geo chart on the website.
My concerns are that the saddle to bar drop will be too much on the 56, (I need 80.5 from BB centre to top of saddle) and a 57.5 TT.
My gut says wait and see if I can snag a 58.......but clubmates frame is cherry bomb.....
