Peculiar development: I removed the crank to replace the bearings over the weekend but the ones in there seemed absolutely fine. No signs of any grease leaking out or anything. Cleaned, re-greased and re-installed the cranks and now everything seems smooth and fine.

I stopped a cracking noise which was coming from my Boardmans' BB30 bearings by removing a spacer/cleaning/reassembling.

That's reassuring, did it stay quiet for a while? I guess if part of the assembly was slightly skewiff it might develop some interesting sounds.

It was absolutely silent thereafter- still is.

This is excellent news. My fingers are crossed.
Now I get to moan about BB30 like everyone else too. -

My FSA BB30 NDS crank fell off on the way home last night! It's quite difficult to put your foot down safely with the crank and pedal attached to it...
Crank and spindle look ok, perhaps the bolt wasn't tight enough (thanks halfords, I really should check these things). I've lost the wave washer. So, recommendations for somewhere to get one plus a relatively inexpensive suitable torque wrench and 10 mm hex please (ideally 1/2" as it'll fit the sockets from my socket set that way). Cranks should be torqued to 38-40 nm.

The NDS fit is probably fucked now - get a replacement.
If you can't / don't want to: fixing compound ahoy or it will keep backing itself off. And check that the extractor bolt is still in place and glue that down, too.

The NDS was a bit gritty (year old bike), so I popped the seal and wiped it out. This smoothed it out, so a dash of grease and I put the seal back on.
While I was at it, I opened the DS too and found the bearing has what looks like an additional shield.
Any idea what's what? Both bearing are OE as fitted to a Felt B12 and are both marked "FSA BB30 6806-2RS MR149" (the second rubber shield is present on the reverse of the bearing).
The NDS photo is from when I re-opened it and cleaned the fresh grease out, but the difference is clear.

@Scilly.Suffolk I've had bearings like that. I don't think it's marked which side has the additional seal, but it would probably be helpful if the additional seal was on the exposed side...
If you fancy overthinking it as I did, I popped the bearing out that was the 'wrong' way round, reversed it, then popped it back in.

So both bearings have the extra seal, but have been fitted in different directions?
FFS between Felt and Lifecycle UK, it's a wonder that this bike hasn't just given up and dropped down dead.

Possibly, but there's no way to tell I think, as both sides of the bearing are visually identical unless you take the seals off...
I wouldn't worry about it myself.

Apologies for the late reply: thanks! :)
What brought me back to this thread, is that I'm after a BB30>HTII converter.
Is Praxis or Wheels Mfg preferred?

Both are fine tbh, get the thread together wheelsmfg one if you go that route.
