  • That's amazing! I wonder if it worked, as in suspension etc, or if it was purely for show.

  • I wanted one of those so badly back in the day. I would point out that a lot of us ran Flite saddles on inline posts in the early/mid nineties- of course, we may have been wrong to do so, but it was common.

  • something about that makes me want one
if i could work out which end was which

  • Someone at GT was doing a whole load of drugs during that time. So much awesome

  • I still think these mantra Kleins are the best looking mountain bikes ever. No idea whether they were any good, even for the time, but they still look amazing

  • Not great by all accounts.

  • HHSBMX

  • From memory the Kleins had suspension issues.

Unified rear triangle suspension only worked if you where on the saddle. Lift your bum off the saddle and i think the rear locked out, can't remember if rear braking induced a lock out as well.
So yeah, look great but not so functional :) The GT RTS and LTS series way better in the suspension area :)

  • <<<<<<<<< nice, but obvz inline post and flite>>>>>>>>>>

    P. S. Also that Klein at the top. - pengy

  • Best page since the birth of this topic. Absolutely mental!

    This.

  • Dammit last week I wanted a GT thermoplastic contraption and now I want a Klein Mantra

  • :) Despite the suspension shortcomings, the old Kleins......... would have one.
The hardtails and Road and CX frames had an unnerving rep for being brutally stiff race fuselages.

That was one of the cool things, Klein reffered to frames as a Fuselage, very aero :)

  • Love the Yeti. Proper bike.

  • rare prototype ... yours for $9,750 USD

  • It's probably because Gary Klein studied at MIT and I guess a lot of the engineering there would have been more aerospace than bike race.

  • Klein was ahead of it's time in bicycles.

    Intergrated stem and bars.
    Oversized headset bearings.
    Pushfit oversized BB bearings.
Look at Dicki's photo, that chainstay, from square profile to oval to round....... waybefore hydroforming and mass production which made Alu frames cheap.
    MIT+Klein=groundbreaking fuselage's :)
