Yeah I'm sure there is a knack to it, but mini vees just seem 100% better. Far less maintenance with what feels like the same power.
While we're on the brake topic does anyone know of a good deep drop brake? I have R560s, with new Swissstop green pads and they are quite weak compared to my dual-pivot 5800 series on the other bike. Is my only option really £100 TRPs?

So I'm nearly completely settled on the London Road.
Just making some final calculations on geo and sizing. As mentioned above, I'm riding the Canyon S, with no spacers and have gone from a 90mm stem to 100mm stem. The stack and reach below. I'm thinking I need the PX in S and will go for a 90mm stem so that it rides as the Canyon did on arrival (relaxed) it also came with 170 cranks, which I'll go for again with the PX...
Canyon - S
Stack - 566
Reach - 363PX - S
Stack - 532 (+35mm spacers)
Reach - 365Only thing is that the size guide says I need a 'M' ('S' is recommended for 5′3″ to 5′7″ and 'M' for 5′8″ to 5′11″ - I am 5'9")...
PX - M
Stack - 554
Reach - 379 -

I am 170cm (5'7") and I had small ultimate (376mm reach) with 110mm stem .. my current bike has 381mm reach and 555mm stack, I just use it with 110mm stem and just the 10mm conical spacer.
Don't be afraid of canti; I went Tektro RX5 Mini V on my winter bike and they are absolutely fine; as good as caliper brake. Just cut the housing correct length and learn how to set them up properly.

Anyone ridden any of the current Merckx range ? Considering the San Remo 76. Weekend warrior who may be getting back into club rides and racing.
The shop I'm considering getting if from also stock the Look range, and the 765 is in my price range if anyone has experience of that ?Also looking for recommendations for bike shops in London that stock stuff beyond the usual Trek/Specialized etc and do test rides and bike fits. Has been 10 years since I moved away and no doubt the cycling shop landscape has changed

Sigma Sport, Pearson, Bespoke, Mosquito, Condor, Brixton Cycles, Comtat, Pretorius.
I'm sure there are others. Google 'em and see what you like the look of.

I did, with the Mourenx 69 disc.
Finish is great, bike is well built, good attention to details (cable ports, seatpost clamp, etc..)
The ride was not thrilling, to say the least. Bike is stiff as hell, but boring at the same time. The head tube was far too tall, and I felt like I was driving a truck.
Maybe the San Remo is different.

Thanks. Have had similar experiences with position on 'relaxed' road bikes. San Remo shouldn't have a sit up and twiddle position, but I'll bear in mind your comments re the ride quality

Not empirical knowledge (because none of them fitted me so I didn't test any). I do know they were designed absolutely for 'safe' handling as that's how Eddie likes them.

Brother in law is after a new steel frame, wants to transfer bits off his current ride, and I've recommended the Genesis Equilibrium 725 (non disc). He's not arsed about guards, so finally I get to my question, what is max tyre size, 32mm?
-
• #7036
32mm without guard, 28mm with (depending on the tyres itself).
-
• #7037
Cheers Ed. Thought that'd be about right.
Any other frameset recommendations that fit the bill? Maybe slightly more clearance, but caliper brake. -
• #7038
How much does he want to spend?
-
• #7039
450-500 (being his upper limit).

Happy days, the 60cm supersix evo HM i wanted came in stock. Does anyone know a nice light carbon 27.2 seatpost with oval rails?

Lastly, do anyone know what the biggest tyres I can fit in the carbon Raleigh Militis?
-
• #7043
Forum favourite in "what the biggest tyres" shocker!!!
-
• #7044
staggering indeed, I don't know what size, but I'd probably run them at lowish pressure..

Mainly because it looks like it can only take 23mm without rubbing.

Only pulling your chain: normally it's you answering "what the biggest tyres" Q's.

what's everyone's thoughts on the 2015 Caad Black and what's a good second hand price?
Just sold my Roberts Audax and Enigma and have possibility of buying either full bike or frameset only, but going to go for something less blingy as i'm pretty skinto generally but did pretty well on selling my old bikes.

A disc road frame with big clearances and luggage mounts - what's out there?
Gonna be used for some gravel riding, some road riding and the TCR 2017.

dare one suggest the current caadx?
Canti are fine, just go for the good one like those mid range Tektro, shimano etc.
Biggest difference is running fork mounted cable hanger which allow you to lower the straddle cable and get great braking power with no fork judder.
