this
the brand certainly is divisive here
there are a few that pop up now and again in the 6 figure region,
compared to rarer pogliaghi bikes, the average frame is reasonably priced usually
there is has been a curve the last few years, with some vendors expecting too much -

i am unsure why the brand has got such a "thing about it", or if people are buying as statements or something
i find the rapha "thing" funny, people buy into it, as if defining themselves with it -

Fuck Rapha tbf.
From what I can see, there are a few things that have combined to develop the Colnago Lust, some smaller than others:
Italian
Ernesto
Merckx
Build Quality
Rad paint (Art Decor an acquired taste I guess, but unique nonetheless)
Clover lugs

In Canada la carrera did a thing, the futura/stash range, which (arguably) put the
brand out there to a "cool" demographic
some of the older collection/renovation sites can be a bit fuddy duddy imho
fyxo has done a lot to give the brand a kind of style spin in OZ, appropriating the brands logo
and selling his "fauxnago" where the brand was distributed less widely -

re Yanks, some on the Market there are astronomical, but they do get some shit there, so stuff can be reasonably priced
I got asked to appraise a rare oval cx prototype built for a us show there, I'd say one of the strongest drivers in the curve has been the consumption of the Eastern Asians -

poss anti, also poss most expensive master eva, futura painted , 110k$,prototype for the Carrera x Futura/Stash colab

• #39459
now, who would buy such a thing and why?
would they ride it or look at it? -
• #39460
Did they actually ever sold this bike?
-
• #39461
it came on the market a while back, 2013, and i contacted Nadir to post about it
I think i saw it still on the market in 14, but nothing since, so I am unsure as to whether or not it sold
I know of Futura from the Wildstyle days, but I don't think he has ever reached the highs of Banksy financially , so if this master has that kind of value is anyone's guess -

" ONE-OF-A-KIND 2008 Colnago FUTURA La Carrera prototype road bicycle frame fully built with custom wheel-set hand painted by FUTURA.This frame was the prototype for the Look Ma No Brakes project which revived both the Master Pista model and the Art Bike concept! In 2007, La Carrera collaborated on this project with world renowned graffiti/street artists FUTURA and Stash, and legendary bicycle manufacturer Colnago. Thirty-eight track frames were made based on each of the artists' design but the prototypes were road frames and this is a one-of-one original! The frame has an amazing blend of artistry and performance; Futura's stunning design (inspired, he says, by Wonderbread) realized on Ernesto Colnago's Master frame (hand-laid in Pisa). This Master frame is assembled with stunning chromed lugs for the purist who wants the classic ride and clean lines that only come from a lugged steel frame. Details include hand painted logos, detailing on the lugs, chrome seat/chain stays, and the always beautiful Colnago logo on the 1" head tube.
The HED Jet 90 wheels were painted to compliment the protoype road frame by Futura in 2011 as a gift to Nadir Olivet, the creator of the Look Ma No Brakes project (authentication photo of FUTURA working on wheels available)."

by seeing if surges of non like posts correlate to preceding posts by certain individuals or are just random -

@Cheesecake_intl had an ancient one of those on the first or second Tweed run. Remember him firing it up and ragging a quick lap of a square. Motor was tiny and mounted above the rear wheel.
I'd love a go on one fitted to a half decent 90s mtb with slicks.. -

Kind of don't want to post it here because it looks awesome but I'm just not sure you can actually ride a disc brake lefty spinergy without immediately dying?

I'd love a go on one fitted to a half decent 90s mtb with slicks..They are interesting bikes - the legal status changes as soon as you fire the engine, once running (even if not producing drive) you have to have the appropriate VED paid, an MOT, registration plate and an approved helmet, plus insurance etc.
Turn the engine off and all of these requirements vanish.

Given the fork/brake/wheel combination, using a "detonator" tyre makes me very nervous! :-P
I don't think that desirability can be entirely rationalised. Does a Chanel bag hold stuff better than one from Primark? A Kia will get me to work just the same as a Porsche.
Something about the brand gives it some kind of mystique or romance or whatever you want to call it, and this adds value. The world would be a very different place if we were rational with every purchase. Anyway, in my relatively uninformed opinion, they are a bit more unique than the other brands in terms of build style/paint etc, and are obviously mega to ride (again, from limited experience).
TLDR: They are fucking cool.
I'm going to look really silly if I'm caught up in some kind of in-joke here.
