• This has been off road for 60 miles, and ridden to work and back a few times. As such it has a few scratches to the laquer, which can be touched up with a small pot of laquer that came with the frame.

Here is a link to the specs on the Genesis website:

    http://www.genesisbikes.co.uk/bikes/frames/adventure/croix-de-fer-931

It is a 56cm. These are £1200 new. I am asking £1100, which includes a headset fitted by Brixton Cycles.
    PRICE DROP TO 800

Frame only (no fork) Now 700

The frame is a little too big for me. I normally do ride a 56, but the geometry on this leaves me a bit stretched out, the frame has a longer wheelbase than I expected.

  • Ridden one of these a couple of weeks ago from somebody working at evans spitalfields. Such an amazing ride! Smooth and comfortable. Would want one if I can afford one. Good luck with the sale! Pretty sure buyer will enjoy this one!

  • get a shorter stem, move the saddle froward a little and enjoy it.

  • +1 for the adjustments I reckon. Every bike I have had has taken a good few hundred miles to ease into, even ones where I have had a proper fit; your body just gets used to how your old bike felt.

I was seriously looking at these a few weeks back, but Evans at Spitalfields utterly unable to arrange getting to see one so it wasn't to be. Bike looks lovely though. I ended up with a lynskey instead :-).

Good luck with the sale though, it will be a lovely bike for whoever ends up with it.

  • get a shorter stem, move the saddle froward a little and enjoy it.

If I don't get a good price, this will be what I do. Thing is, stem is already quite short. These are big sturdy frames, and I could easliy ride a 54, in fact I did borrow one from BC, all it needed was a longer stem and bigger spacer stack. I went for a 56 so I could use the cockpit from my old bike, but this now seems to have been a false economy.

The build weighs 13.4 kilos, which is more than I was expecting. It is partly down to the heavy 8 speed mtb drive, but a smaller frame would just make it easier to lug up hills. Stiffer too.

  • does the genesis badge peel off or is it welded/riveted? just wondering

  • Looks glued to me, there's some flex in the corner and I can't see any welds / rivets.

  • get a shorter stem, move the saddle froward a little and enjoy it.

Moving the saddle to shorten the reach is really poor advice...

  • Well yes, it wont make the bike as a whole any smaller. I just feel a bit dwarfed on it.

  • riser bars! i had a similar experience, had to shorten the stem by 20mm and if it had drops, i would have to go even shorter

  • Wouldn't want to tour with risers. Also would need to buy new shifters.

  • price drop £950

  • is this by any chance still for sale?

  • Yes, it is.

  • Is it still for sale ? - to help my search with sizing, how tall are you- so that I can guage the 56cm suitability (even if you did sell it). If you have the bike, I'm interrested.

  • Is it still for sale ? - to help my search with sizing, how tall are you- so that I can guage the 56cm suitability (even if you did sell it). If you have the bike, I'm interested.

  • I am 5'10.5" with a 32" inside leg. I have been riding the bike a bit more now (did a long ride today) and am getting used to the geometry. But I still think I would prefer a smaller frame. I'd say the ideal height for this bike is 5'11" - 6'1", but this depends on your proportions.

The bike feels big for me because I used to tour on a 'cross bike, and this is a more dedicated touring frame, so is bound to be longer / higher.

I'm reducing the price for the frameset to £900, including the headset.

The frame alone, with no fork or headset, is also available for £800. (The forks would be fine if I built the same set up onto a smaller frame)

  • Thanks, I'm 5' 8" - a choice between 52 or 54 cm I think for me

  • Prices dropped. I should mention that any sale is contingent on me finding a replacement, either the same frame in a 54cm, or something equally good.

  • I should also mention: The 2015 Croix de fer stainless is not reynolds steel, and takes a press-fit bottom bracket. So if you want Reynolds 953, and you want a choice of bottom bracket, you want my one :)

  • .

  • Is the frame still available? I am interested.

  • Ummm check the date, surely this highly desirable steed is long gone.
