• Saw a very nasty incident last night.
A cyclist took the sharp right hand corner at this precarious junction way too fast. His front tyre lost all grip and the bike went underneath him. He came down very hard on his face and head, I think he was unconscious. I was right behind him as he had just come hurtling past me down the hill. I thought to myself, 'Your going way too fast for that corner' - I have lost my rear wheel there a couple of times - and then he hit the deck. I just about managed to avoid him. Stopped to help him out, called an ambulance etc. He was very shaken up.
Be safe out there, even when there is no ice, some of these corners are so slippery. Just remember, it's not summer

  • Agreed, I always take it easy on that bend just because of all the drivers around there, but it will be particularly bad with a greasy or icy surface. Hope he's ok, heal up fellow cyclist

  • Just down the road from me. You can get up a lot of speed coming down towards Archway and it's always a busy road. Heal up.

  • It's a great corner in the summer, a proper chicane, but in the winter it's a death trap. By far the most dangerous part of my commute home

  • Doesn't help that the filter lanes are all over the shop if you're turning right towards Kentish Town.

  • Exactly, have to be careful not to get swiped by cars going towards Hornsey

  • Are you talking about the corners around the petrol station at the top of the hill? I think I saw the aftermath, once the rider was at the side of the road and being attended to. He was on his feet, but bloodied.

Horrible junction, especially coming north, too much high speed traffic needing to cross each other.

  • Yes I think there is some confusion about where I am referring too.
It is this corner. You can see from how the red line is eroded that it is just pretty much all oil and shit there. IMO it's one of the most dangerous junctions for a cyclist

If you saw another cyclist with him then that was me

  • Yeah, sorry. Assumed you meant the very bottom of the hill, which is also a swine! Nevertheless, hope the guy's ok.

  • Well done for helping, Mike.
