I've built PCs before, that's not the issue. The issue is time. I'm a contractor - it would literally cost me more money to build it myself.

Flat rate VAT ?

Actually quite the opposite - my machines are old because I'm so fucking awesome at keeping old tech running.
So, are any of those brands actually any good or are they cheapass versions of the brands I would've bought 10 years ago?

Fuck. That. Shit.
What am I? A Dancing James or a Scoble?

Second link is "Why does nobody care about Palit" which sums up my life at this stage quite accurately.
I think I'm just going to stick with onboard video and if something doesn't run that should run then I'll worry about upgrading.
Thanks for letting me flesh that out in my heads, n00bz :)

Palit Geforce GTX 750 Ti Kalmx Silent 2GB GDDR5 Graphics CardSo let's just add that and be done with it. Shit, price just went up. Damn you!

Can't be that good at building them as it only took me an hour to do mine and I'd never done it before... Lolllzzzzzzz

I kind of love this:

You don't need a graphics card if you're sticking to not gaming. You definitely don't need an sli rated motherboard if you're not gaming. I'm suspicious about them bumping up the price to use the on board graphics though.
Do you need 512GB of ssd space? That's expensive. Do you need a blu-ray player? Expensive, tvs take USB now anyway. -

I also hope they aren't charging you for the power lead, surely it's just a kettle lead?
-
• #2243
You could get a second hand mac pro for that kind of money and it would be pretty quiet.
Also, what @alialias said. -
• #2244
Or perhaps you're just underestimating how much I earn?
I don't suppose you factored in an OS installation into that build time either did you?If you want a build off, let me know. Loser pays for the other's machine. I'll bring the thermal paste.
Since you're so keen on ruining my impulse buy, I will go and check out the part prices to see what their build costs are and probably end up thanking you. Spoilsport.

The price should be lower with on-board graphics. Adding the Asus to it added 50 quid I think.
Yeah, onboard gfx is "- £53.32" as in minus £53, that's not a dash.I own GTA (some number) but I don't play it since my good card died and I replaced it with cheapass 2d one - this might change if I actually had a card with enough grunt to play it.
'NEED' 512gb, well, no, of course not. I could get away with 100 for a boot drive. But then I'll get annoyed that I didn't buy a bigger one and use it for installing apps onto to give them a speed boost too. Basically, I've bought one new laptop and a used desktop in 11 years and for a so-called computer geek that's pretty shite, so now I'm treating myself so I don't have to bother for another 10 years :)
I now have a bluray player for the TV and I like owning discs as opposed to 'digital content' so why not own a blu-ray writer? Again, not sure if I'll 'need' it but it's a nice to have, ya know?

Dunno, I'll look at the spec. list to see if it has a price next to it.

Bunch of buzzkills. What happened to the good old days when people would mock you for not having enough grunt, not having a big enough hdd or enough RAM. Shit, I can't believe no one has said SLI that motherfucker or you're DTM! No wonder you all use fucking Macs.
I'm off to build something faster... http://www.wikihow.com/Build-a-Supercomputer

As others have said, looks pricey. How much are you valuing the fanless part because I guess that's what's adding the big premium.
If that's the major driver then do you really want/need such a powerful PC or can you go with mobile processor, onboard graphics.
Cheap, quiet, powerful. Pick two from the three.
OS installs are pretty straightforward nowadays unless you have some weird hardware.

Ha, I didn't mean to spoil your impulse buy! Also, was just joking about build, took me bloody ages. I think I specced out a silent PC and it came in around the same but had a £400 card, might be further up thread? Regardless of need/want/money earned paying £1700 for a machine with a £50 gpu doesn't strike me as prudent. I'll try and dig out some better examples and chime in with more constructive comments...
This.
I built mine a while ago.
The advantage is that you learn how they get built and how to upgrade them again.
