And what has a message you sent to other people, but not the buyer, got to do with anything?
It doesn't show you in a good light does it? You sent other people photos of the damage, but not the buyer.
You say the buyer was verbally informed of the damage, which is at odds with his version of events. Bearing in mind your behaviour so far, I know who I believe.
And you still haven't explained why you added the extra photos to the sales thread.

i wanted everyone to see the photos, and because i discussed with @Richard1982 precisely what the damage was, and he said he didnt mind, as it was his first disc, he didnt want it to be too flash, as he may ruin it anyway. how, im not sure, but his words, not mine. he was eager to take it off me because i said it was not in the best of condition and had tiny punctures, was old, but still true with smooth bearings and he said that he wanted one that wasn't pristine. i only sent pictures over to prospective buyers, when we converse about the purchase of it, but i was assured this was ok, even when he let me know the wheel had arrived, he said he was happy with it and used smiley emojis :D (and that was days ago)

i wanted everyone to see the photos...
Right.
You wanted everyone to see the photos, so you added them to the sales thread rather than posting them in here and didn't tell anyone?
And that's ignoring the question of what photos of the damage were supposed to demonstrate. The question is not to what extent the wheel was damaged, but whether you disclosed the damage.
Also: "i thought it was evident from my photographs on the thread and my description what the condition of the wheel would be-thats why i posted them".
The only photos on your thread that show the damage, are the ones that you added the day you wrote that.
So you did not add the photos simply to show the damage, but in an attempt to conceal your original deceit.

i must say after all this, i feel somewhat obliged to get a partial refund. so let me know how much is reasonable and ill send it over.
You know the buyer is inexperienced and embarrassed by the whole affair, so rather than making things even more difficult for him, why don't you just send him some money? It would go a long way to making good the situation.
How much?
First of all you overcharged him for shipping: you can send a wheel via Parcel Force for £16-odd, but in the circumstances let's call it a tenner.
As for the wheel, off the top of my head £50 sounds reasonable (unless anyone has a more rational assessment).
Which makes £60.
But let's not forget what happened here: you deliberately mislead the buyer, overcharged him for shipping and then attempted to conceal what you'd done. So as a gesture of good will and contrition, why not make it up to £75?

• #3756
Why don't we leave the seller and the buyer to sort it out between themselves now? I mean if the buyer can get all of his money back, apart from a bad experience and wasted time at least there would be resolution.
-
• #3757
Because it won't get sorted will it?
The seller clearly can't be trusted and the buyer somehow feels that it's his fault.
-
• #3758
I'm more alarmed that the seller thinks that SW16 is in the middle of nowhere.

I wasn't going to post this as it was eventually resolved and I gave @James. a very large benefit of doubt, but as other people have had problems...
I got myself stupidly into a situation where I had paid twice for an item (don't ask) and James promised a refund of one payment of course. The item arrived safely and as described. James then went silent and did not respond to messages for about 10 days despite the profile page showing forum activity, so I escalated a paypal claim and after another 10 days got the warranted refund.
It was only after this that I realised the seller can send a refund before the payment has actually cleared and having never got an explanation I would say it was quite dishonest behaviour.
This was a few months ago and I won't be arguing about it at all, just getting it out there.

Yikes this is all a bit awkward :-P
The damage is very minor. Let's just call it £10 because I did feel a bit swizzled with the postage :-/

Need some advice. Sold something on here. Buyer paid via paypal. He received, messaged me it wasn't working as expected which is strange as it was fine when I had it, we communicated, tried to figure out whether he was using it properly, I gave him some advice and he said he would get back to me. I didn't hear anything back assuming everything was fine. Then today, luckily... I logged into my paypal... and there was an open dispute, this has never happened before, he requested a refund...though I'm I am happy to do the refund, what do I do now? wait for him to send it back then accept the refund? thanks
-
• #3763
Sounds similar to a chap I dealt with-who is it out of interest?
You need to do everything through paypal, they need to send it back with proof of receipt then they enter the tracking info in paypal and they do the refund automatically. They could send you a rotten banana or a shit rolled in pot pourri but as long as Paypal gets the tracking info then you're fucked but hopefully they'll do the decent thing and just send the item back, eh?
-
• #3764
Reject and say you've not had the item back. Paypal should rule that he needs to return it, then will process a refund.
-
• #3765
Yeah - they have to return the goods first.
-
• #3766
fingers crossed... we'll find out soon enough
-
• #3767
Thanks. I have refused the refund and messaged him to return the item, after which I would refund him. This whole thing has really thrown me off... Last message from him was "will have a go tomorrow and let you know" and then boom paypal dispute...
-
• #3768
If he had come here first, he would probably have been advised to open a paypal dispute.
It's not necessarily an indictment of you, or him - it's just a sensible course of action.
Also - if you are sent a poop, you have recourse to the courts.
[Edit] And probably the police, if it actually were a poop.

• #3769
Yeah the harvesting of parts is too common.
Hence the collect and test then pay cash or I'll deliver. That way there s less argument. Can they be prosecuted for postal fraud?
-
• #3770
Let's just call it £10
Your choice, but I think you're letting him off the hook.
Either way: have you been paid?
-
• #3771
Well I took the wheel to a local carbon place and they filled in the cracks and hole with resin so it's been resolved and I'm happy with it. I know £10 isn't much but I'd rather not have the stress of arguing over it I think. James messaged me about sorting it about an hour ago so I guess it's in progress.
-
• #3772
It's good you've got the wheel repaired: I'd expect James to bear the cost of the repairs in addition to refunding the overcharged shipping.
I do understand that you'd rather there wasn't a fuss: it's embarrassing getting ripped-off (I'm not sure how they know this, but the majority of fraud is believed to go unreported for this reason).
However, if you let this slide it sends the wrong message to others.

• #3773
Update: the buyer messaged me via lfgss on weds staying everything was fine and that he wanted to keep the item. I've asked him to close the dispute, but so far no response... Is there anything I can do? Or just wait...

Hi everyone,
I have been patient so far, but i can't control myself over this thing anymore: Is there anyone who knows (or had had beer with - sometime in he past) Roy (Roy S. Halcro)?
If there is one amongst you, would you please let him know that i have been trying to get him.
He sold me a 6770 group recently but couldn't post it for some reasons(?!). (By the way i paid for the group on 24 of last month of 2015.) After my messages asking the situation, whether he sent or not, 16 days ago he said that he had been away with his family, so will send it asap, and then 3 days after this (12 days ago), after my messages, again he said he will send it asap. But no update from him yet. I have sent some messages so far, and in addition, he tried to sell other bits on here on classifieds.
I try to be optimistic about this and say that he is in a bad situation or sth like that. But it shouldn't be that hard to get in touch, saying sorry/can't send/will send... anything would be appreciated. But no news!
I know there are people who knows Roy Halcro in person on here. Can you help me?
Regards

I forgot to mention, that i am in Turkey. And before i had sent the money, we had met in terms of this sale i mentioned above. Everything was okay, with no problem between us, till he refuses to get in touch with me until this moment.
This just confirms my hatred for poorly photographed stuff for sale on here. Its really not that difficult to find a cheap digi cam with macro settings for sale, then take photos during the day when there is the most light of what you are selling... Dont most people have these iphone 5 things nowadays?
Ps. Example of cheap digi cam with macro setting
