  • I see said the blind man!
    Still a beautiful looking machine.

  • They've replaced the dropouts with track ends but not removed the cable exit point?

  • yep, stainless steel dropouts and safe chrome init ; )

  • I still have to choose what rim I'll take in 36h and find pedals 600 ultegra...
The seatpost is a DA it will do the job for now.

    Full 600

    fulltegra

  • Well the Marin bear valley is on hold cos I can't be arsed to get a blow torch to unstick the bb. But a generous friend gave me this as he didn't want to replace the broken gear hanger which I've just done..its a airborne blackbird, ally and carbon.
although it's got vertical dropouts i'd try and run it as a single speed and all black if my limited budget allows....i thought my Denti was light at just over 3lbs but this is just under!

  • ^^ Looking sexy as is!

  • Wonderful page!!

  • Hi all,
Planning on ordering a custom frame locally, basically I want an aggressive geometry for short commute but with wide tyres.
The mash work frame as a template but with 26 wheels to keep the chain stay short with 2.1 tyres.

    Achievable?

  • entirely possible, but you've pretty much just described a jump bike so no need for a custom

  • Well I'm thinking more on this kind of look.
Fork will be the surly disc trucker one.

And the cost with chromoly tubing would be quite cheap here actually, that why custom is considered.

  • 2016's first pick up. !

  • Here is a similiar idea with IGH and discs for commuting, but not as tight geo. Geometry shown with the dimensions of a Ritchey WCS fork. Still didn´t get around to build it as I would need about 500 Euros just for the NuVinci wheels. I did however pass on a really nice NuVinci wheelset with belt drive components about a year ago on E-bay and regret it now...

OT: are Shimano Alfine chainring guards size specific or universal
? Would a 45T guard work with smaller chainrings?

  • OT: are Shimano Alfine chainring guards size specific or universal

They are size specific if you're using a dérailleur at the back (have to clear the chain when you shift into the higher gears), but the big guard would work with a smaller ring (albeit looking silly) on a single speed or hub gear.

  • filth. i had a daniel salmon once, excellent lopro that i should have kept

  • Cheers, until couple of days ago I thought they are SS/IGH only, but then saw that Shimano lists them as 9-speed. Now I see that buying and converting R550 crankset for a 1x9 drivetrain was a mistake since I could have gone for Alfine straight ahead. I will try if the 45T guard will work with a 42T ring, if not I will grind down 42T ring for use as a guard with 39T ring.

  • 26" fgfs frame? could stick a brake or 2 on it, 2.1 won't exactly feel aggressive though

  • HACHA

    Moar photos plz

  • My first foray into the world of discs and hydraulic stuff. Think there's a bit too much lever travel but I've spent most of the day putting it together and I can't be arsed to dick about any further now.

Should just be a case of sorting bar tape and fine tuning the position tomorrow then I'll give it a test ride.

@bertocq how's yours coming along? I might have some tips on what not to do...

  • Lovely!

  • @HACHA nice bike but your camera's white balance is shite

  • I've got most of the parts for a 1x10 setup to keep the cost down, just the wheels and disc brakes. And of course the frame :)
