Second one is the current version, it's actually 15 miles whereas the old one was only 14.3

If I'd had my way, the event would have been changed to a safer 17.5mile variant, but Peter Bell insisted on a true 15 mile event, possibly because some clubs have really soft 15 mile TT records, so making it a 15 might encourage entries.

Can't get much softer than not having a record. :)

What's wrong with the course that would make it unsafe (or less safe than your variant)?
