Cycle jumble sale?

  • Am staying away, dayoff n'all that. Hope you find a bargain or two.

  • got some nice sram brifters, good and quiet now if you want to pop down.

  • I got up late, gonna sit on the sofa and watch football instead.

  • I found the jumble so disappointing! I couldn't go the past few years and always had to put up with everyone talking about how great it was/showing off all their purchases, was this year just a bad one off? The only thing that caught my eye was that beautiful Donohue 853 frame and fork but I managed to resist temptation.

  • @Dick bought that frame.

The first year I went there was like 5 mint condition Bianchi Pista Concept frames in various sizes.

  • It was pretty dull

I went quite late on (11:45 ish - I'm usually queueing at 08:30) remembering that last year I did most of my buying after 12 when things had calmed down a little and you could actually get to the stalls!
I also remembered the abundance of track frames, parts and peripherals last year as I was only really looking for a few road bits - last year was awesome!
I went with the intention of maybe getting a really nice track frame relatively cheap - and that I did - but apart from the odd Dolan a barrage of snide Chinese carbon looking Hinde's and a Bianchi pista concept there were no other track frames there that I saw! And certainly next to no decent parts. It was more like a glorified cycle orientated car boot sale with most people trying to flog massively overpriced old shite.

Was very very happy with my purchases however had I not snaffled that frame I'd have been very disappointed!

  • Bike jumbles are so 2012

  • @c0gsucker aye, I saw on 01fix1. glad that it went to a good home! enjoy it @Dick !

  • Whoever buys it off dick will enioy it.

  • Outdoor bike jumble at the National Cycling Centre proposed for 30th August!

  • Beer Festival on too.

  • Did anyone get/see anything good at the jumble sale this year?

  • I went with a pocket full of cash for some nice vintage (40s/50s) wheels, pedals, handlebars and anything else interesting that cropped up. Despite getting there early I didn't really see anything I fancied, apart from the 32/40 NOS rims somebody snaffled just before me. I Left with two bottom bracket grease nipples.

  • Can't go wrong with grease nipples

  • I was working early doors so got in 1pm. There wasn't much that caught the eye, some pricey classic lightweights always nice to dream of. Nearly bought a tag-along to store for when nipper is bigger, but decided not.

  • I had a list of parts wanted for various projects, and managed to tick a few items off the list (and save some money in the long run) so left fairly pleased. Cranks, hex skewers, toe straps, a hub, a chainring, chain tugs from the BMX shop outside that I was coincidentally looking at online the day before, plus my girlfriend got a few nice bits to help finish off her NJS track build, including a padded Kashimax saddle for £8.

  • i came away with nothing - apart from having overheard the bloke selling old clothing say:

"of course tweed is actually more breathable than GoreTex"

  • I got some new rims carbon forks riser bars 13t cog, me sorted for the next year :D

  • Made a very small podcast about the January jumble...

It’s a social event, where you hope to get a bit of beer money out of
it... Selling stuff you paid £100 for, for a tenner.

If I go home wiith more money that I’ve come with I’m totally
distraught, because it means I’ve had a bad day.

  • @runpaintrunrun well done - at least you got something good out of it :)

  • That makes me feel a bit better about missing it! @Lukas saddle sounds like a bargain, and nice to see you the other day

  • You too Ned, sorry I just rode away! I think You got stopped by lights so I just carried on :-S
We haven't tried fitting it yet, and it only occurred to me the other day that it might have been cheap because it's 30mm rail to rail... So massive bargain if it isn't, and an excuse to find a 30mm NJS post if it is.

  • No beer festival this year though was there? In my experience, the dealers got all the £40(yes there were some) track frames before they opened to the public, but I've not been since 2013.

  • Jumble only meets Beer Fest in Summer. Wouldn't fit the winter jumble and winter ales fest in the arena together.

  • No, I just meant generally. They've moved it to Gmex apparantly. Never knew about a summer one. Is that still going ahead?
