Years ago, I agreed to let a temporary bedsit in Camden. Turned up to get the keys and sign the lease, and as soon as we opened the door, the air was thick with swarms of flies, like something out of a horror movie. Walked away, obvs, but never considered there were probably rat carcasses rotting away in there. Lucky fucking escape.

Always open the letterbox if the door has one. Have a sniff, if you don't like what you smell don't open the door. Pitch black with no lights, stench, flies and a sticky floor is never a good thing.
