Don't come to Leeds.

You'll hate the cheap housing and 30 minute bike commute. Also the massive amount of small breweries and bars in the area are particularly bad. The local countryside is crap and Tour De France only started here because everything is flat and full of cars.

For what it's worth, you should stay south of the Watford Gap and keep everyone happy.

Spent a lot of time up north , Sheffield mainly. The majority of people I met up there were great. Met a few people who were like yourself and didn't like southerners but luckily they were the minority. Best go and feed me pigeons.

I moved to Bristol 2.5 years ago after 11 years in London.

When i go back and visit I just generally get this overwhelming urge to kill everybody as soon as i cross the M25.

I moved to Finland because the Help To Buy thing a couple of years ago pushed prices up 30% thus completely fucking my possibility to buy. Seriously what the fuck is up with some shitty one bedroom ex council flat in a gang ridden estate in zone 3 being worth £300,000 fuck that shit. So I started applying for jobs wherever. I knew Helsinki already and there is a massive skill gap plus massive demand in my line of work so thought fuck it lets see what living abroad is like.

It's pretty good here, I quite like cold (currently -20C), cycling is ok, although beer is too expensive (typically £6 for 500ml of something acceptable) and they are currently obsessed with IPAs (or "eeppa" as they annoyingly call it) which I can't stand.

I've lived in a few places - Leeds, Nottingham, Manchester, Canterbury, but London is where I was born, where all my best friends live, where all my remaining family live and it's where I've spent most of my life, and it fucking pisses me off that there is no way I can afford to live there now because I JUST missed the boat on house prices, unless another of my parents dies.

It's more about what white 4x4 you can afford and how much more fake tan you can get your wife to wear.

I have a palpable feeling that's a complete reverse of that ... the point where I breath a sigh of relief to get back to town away from the small-town boring places and their starey simpleton racists. On the Euston line it's about Wembley Park. To me, it's a career from growing up in a small town, lots of time in London as a kid, and wanting to live in London from the age of 14. Took me ten years to settle properly here, I've spent 20 years feeling truly like this is home.

I do miss fresh air mind. London stinks.
