I moved to Finland because the Help To Buy thing a couple of years ago pushed prices up 30% thus completely fucking my possibility to buy. Seriously what the fuck is up with some shitty one bedroom ex council flat in a gang ridden estate in zone 3 being worth £300,000 fuck that shit. So I started applying for jobs wherever. I knew Helsinki already and there is a massive skill gap plus massive demand in my line of work so thought fuck it lets see what living abroad is like.
It's pretty good here, I quite like cold (currently -20C), cycling is ok, although beer is too expensive (typically £6 for 500ml of something acceptable) and they are currently obsessed with IPAs (or "eeppa" as they annoyingly call it) which I can't stand.
I've lived in a few places - Leeds, Nottingham, Manchester, Canterbury, but London is where I was born, where all my best friends live, where all my remaining family live and it's where I've spent most of my life, and it fucking pisses me off that there is no way I can afford to live there now because I JUST missed the boat on house prices, unless another of my parents dies.
Is there anywhere to go skiing near Helsinki? I'm there next month.
