  • For what reason? The Alloy used in this frame was praised to be the next big thing in the early 90s, turned out it wasn't since it had to be glued together and failed on a regular basis. Mine hasn't yet and I hope I'm keeping my teeth. Won't be using this on single trails or crazy descents anyway, fingers crossed.

  • short commutes in the city on shitty roads, little bit of fun off-road, beer-runs, lock it up outside etc. affordable fun bike sums it up pretty well i guess.

    this is the only bike in my stable that has tires wider than 30c, so it's a pretty comfy ride for a change

  • I would find a better looking stem (still black), maybe riser bars and give it a single ring up front. 1x8 is awesome. Also Id give it as big tyres as possible, perhaps slicks.
    If you are selling the seat post and getting a black one pls let me know. I love the style of that one.

  • Kind of OT but don't know where else to ask. Finally have the money to build up the CDF frame under my bed. Was planning to use Bike24 as they seem to have the cheapest euro pricing. However, I signed up for an account and the prices have all increased slightly now that my address is set to Ireland. The same goes for the UK, although the price difference is less. Never seen this on a site before, how common is this?

    All ze German shops do this, maybe others too. The price difference reflects the different VAT rates in the delivery countries, 19% in Germany, 20% in UK and 23% in Ireland. Probably some stupid EU initiative to undermine the so-called single market.

    It seems that every country can set it's own threshold above which a distance seller has to charge the VAT rate of the destination country, so shops which don't do much international business will be able to charge the shop's local VAT rate, but the big operators have to charge the customer's local rate.

  • I'm also trying to get my head around Shimano road hydro brakes for a mechanical groupset. Again it's a 2015 CDF so doesn't take flat mount

    so there is the new ST-RS505 shifters and BR-RS785 brakes.

    And ST-RS685 + BR-RS785

    So are these both non-flat mount brakes? Is there any performance difference to warrant the price difference? Obviously the ST-RS505 are ugly AF

  • I like it. Don't change much. The stem is great, it fits the era perfectly well, also its threaded so you're limited by options. 1x8 maybe but I'd keep it as is. Bargain.

  • Been riding my sensible bike around in it's light-touring setup since this summer with 32mm Marathon touring tyres and a layed back position. And it's been such a drab, sluggish, uninspiring experience I was close to selling it.

    Sensible head prevailing, I instead (and finally) got around to switching out the tyres today for something a bit speedier. Amazing what a difference a small change in weight (600g) and compound can do. If I get myself organised today I'm gonna switch for an inline seatpost and a 10mm longer stem for a sportier position. It's only been 18 months since I bought the mudguards too, about time to put them on!

  • ST-RS505 look and feel cheap, shifting is sloppy.

  • New track frame and wheels for the summer outdoor season. Only chucked together for the pic, tubs still need gluing etc. Saddle not staying either, just fitted to guage position. Ive a couple of bar/stem combos to try, this B125AA + Syntace F99 combo or a Pro Vibe + something compact drop combo.

  • I've been putting together a single speed conversion for my girlfriend. The idea being that she has something with mudguards to ride at work on (she doesn't like the commute so needs two bikes. Seems like a ploy to get another bike to me). Is there a size of P-clip that will fit most slim, steel stays and forks?

  • Shifting is decent and brake is sharp.

    Sound more like poor step up.

  • My 531 Raleigh conversion has mudguards mounted with p-clips: 16mm diameter clips on front, 10mm on rear. Same guards were once mounted to a Globe Roll 2 frame in the past, but I used 12mm for those seatstays.
    Could play it safe and go 12mm, and bulk it out with electrical tape, but you'll never know without measuring with a vernier caliper.
