The Revenant was pretty good.

All the talk of Making a Murderer (which I can't understand needing 10 episodes!) has made me want to rewatch Errol Morris' docu-bombshell. If you haven't seen The Thin Blue Line, do it.

Anyone watching that, or Making A Murderer, and still wondering, how can this happen, how can these people be so corrupt, will find Clive Stafford Smith's book Injustice an interesting read.

The big shorts. Good effort. Deeply patronising in parts. Would have made a far better documentary.
The system is designed to fuck you. Hard and deep.

And will leave many people confused as to whom the 'hero' of the film is. I'd forgotten the intro which says 'the language used in finance is intentionally complicated to exclude the masses' which made the fourth wall cameos make more sense.
Robin Hood, prince of thieves. Rickman out acts them all without even speaking. Cancel Christmas.

I enjoyed the revenant immensely, helped by the cinema being near empty, so no distractions
5/7

Creed - fairly standard Rocky film. As expected.
If you like Rockys you'll probably like this one.Solid 5/7, best film ever.

I found it was so long that I keep forgetting all the good stuff that it had through it, but days later I know it had good stuff. I like the variation in scenes, except the extreme close up use of wide angle, that irked me a little, but if that was the only issue once or twice in 2 1/2 hours, it did well.

misery/survival porn - it was brutal, unenjoyably to sit through for me

Watched Backcountry last night after looking through the Rotten Tom's best of 2015 list.
Absolutely brutal scenes involving a bear will set me up well for the revenant. Great feeling of threat the whole way through the film. -

70mm Panavision Hateful 8 at Leicester Square was boom ting. Recommend going to see it there, and the £10 bottle of wine is good value considering the shite hot dogs are over a 5er.
Watched Serpico last night on the basis of someone mentioning it months ago on this thread and it was great, Al Pacino would have made a good Anakin Skywalker, equal parts whiney, angry, and badass.

Revenant cinematography was definitely incredible. Use of only natural lighting really gave it that complexity especially during dawn and dusk and shot with the Arri Alexa 65 made it crystal clear.

I watched it at the weekend too.
Loved every bit. Not too long at all. Even Michael Madsen was bearable. I hated Tim Roth's accent, but it turns out that's what he wanted me to do and I felt pleased I'd fallen for it.
I also loved the big reveal - Opening credits roll - That actor? Weird. I didn't know he was in this. He's not been in the trailers. Is he even in this? Is that him nudey in the snow? No, too hairy. Where is he then? Maybe I missed him. Ahhh - there he is.
It's not Kill Bill, nor quite Inglorious Basterds, but it's a firm 3rd/4th favourite Tarantino film for me.

Oh yeah, I forgot that was a big reveal and it was a good reveal!

I seem to be the only one who thought The Revenant was pants.
Any recommendations for a funny film?

Opening sequence and the car chase, both incredible. And the white dress the Bond girld wears. Rest of the film though>>>>>>
Even Daniel Craigs tailoring was shit.
