  • More bikes!
Mrs Jingle Jangle is a very tolerant person.

  • She is the love of my life.

She has many shoes, and handbags; and only knows about half of my bikes!

  • You swine.
    Best keep it that way.

  • I have a bit of a thing for Roberts old Clarendon decals.

  • Me too. Can't bear the new ones.

  • Here's one I used to own from circa 1980.Original paint.

  • Mr. Jingle Jangle, you may remember the disaster of the dented top tube I the blue Roberts I got from you a few years back.
Winston repaired it properly (in place of my temporary car filler repair) then Mario sprayed it...should be re build soon ish...

  • I remember it well. In fact, the 'bike store' I kept it in is now my house!

You have done a brilliant job of that, love the finish.

Doesn't putting a carbon fork on a frame made for a steel fork throw the geometry out a bit?

  • Not sure about the carbon forks... I always wanted my road bike / the Roberts to try to be a bit lighter / more modern slightly... Hence a colour which I thought would marry well with the carbon (wasn't keen on spraying carbon although it was an option), otherwise I would have kept the original blue colour. But I had the original forks sprayed the same by Mario... So it might only be an "erreur de jeunesse", and the steel original may be back soon...
Geometry wise, I haven't really measured, I thought the Columbus minimal had been designed with trad geo steel frames in mind so wouldn't be too far off...
    Riding the bike will tell...

  • "erreur de jeunesse"

    Love that phrase.

The main thing is the frame looks great, so you will look like a boss cruising through the mean streets of South-East London!

  • You got me...
I'm more cruising than proper riding my bikes... Shame...

  • I've got the same problem! Someone in my house dented the top tube, currently looking at getting it repaired - was the job okay?

Also, those decals are great - was that through Vas? Some of the remake decals are awful.

  • Winston Vaz did it for very cheap, and I can't tell now where the dent was.
Dent is brazed, mix of silver and brass, not in that order though, he'd explain better.
Prior to do that, you need to ensure that the frame is structurally sound, was the case for me (again Winston would be able to advise)
Price list for his repairs is on this website (varonha.co.uk)
Transfers were thru Mario Vaz, so was paint job.

My Roberts from last summer in Eroica Britannia.

  • Saw that the other day, very tasty indeed. Silver groupset and wheels, black finishing kit, white saddle and tape yeah?

  • If anyone else needs repro decals, I am happy to give them the files Big Daddy Wayne made for me.
H Lloyd will print from these if you ask nicely, and the font is closer to the original than their current stock versions:

    H Lloyd vs originals:

    Big Daddy Wayne version:

  • /\ too late for me, however I didn't notice when getting the frame back...

  • All silver, black saddle (Brooks pro as before), black/grey tape

  • These stickers are from H Lloyd, spacing seems to be different from your H Lloyd ones, perhaps they have updated them
The little decals came off Ebay, not same font as Clarendon

The Paint is on the frame now, its Hammerite Hammered Green LOL
Home Job painted with a brush
It dried in like a ripple effect so don't show brush marks, varnished with Yacht Varnish. Got a really deep shine, shame camera does not take a great pic to justify what I can see in the flesh.

  • Oh cool! H Lloyd seeeeeem to have updated with Big Daddy Wayne's designs.
Perhaps your efforts where not in vain, @big_daddy_wayne

  • This is in the bay and going to put a bid in. Doesn't look like it'll go cheap though.... http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=381531367077&alt=web

  • Haven't posted my Roberts in a while and I don't think I've ever actually taken a photo of them together, so here we go; road and track, side by side.

Track needs a slightly longer stem (100 up to 110) and I will probably upgrade the group set on the road when summer comes round. Rims will probably get replaced then, too. I foolishly removed the Reynolds 853 decals on both frames so I will order new sets soon to replace them.

    Kinda funny/kinda boring story:
When I had the track frame made for me I realised the frame number was 111111 - which makes it the 11th frame made in November 2011. A year later I went to get the road frame made and asked if the serial number could be 222222 for shits and giggles to which Chas replied rather annoyed "you'd have to wait for that number to come around." Anyway, they did it for me and made a point to show and tell me several times when picking up my new bike.

  • Which reminds me, I used to also own this Roberts.

A couple of years ago a friend and I planned on going to Poland for some relaxed riding and beers. I had a choice of which bike to take; the Roberts or my BMW Gangsta. I chose the Roberts but now wish I had chosen the Gangsta as the box we shipped our bikes in was lost/stolen never to be seen again. His Cannondale Track was also in the box...

  • We didn't do any riding in Poland but we did get really drunk.
