flip flop hub with 135mm spacing?

  • hi all

    first post.

i've been riding fixed offroad on an old Kogswell hub supplied by Hubjub years and years ago, but the lock ring thread has stripped and the other side is for a freewheel.

any recommendations for a replacement? - it would need mountain bike spacing: 135 mm

  • Get a hub with enough axle length and add washers and nuts till you get 135mm
I did it with an Or8 hub and its working perfectly fine.

  • I have the 135mm spacing on my Genesis and had a few issues when I was trying to find a fixed hub last year. Best I could find were a Surly Ultra new hub or one from Velosolo

  • why on earth didn't i think of Surly? perfect - thanks!

  • I think you can get fixed trial bike hubs at 135, not sure if axel is 10 or 14mm though

  • Ignore that link, they don't have lockring threads even though they're advertised as fixed hubs

  • Paul Components track hubs come in 135mm flavour. 44mm chainline though

  • Trials setups often have the freewheel fitted to the crank, with a threaded or splined sprocket on the hub.

  • if your after a cheap solution then a disc mtb hub with a bolt on sprocket would work.

  • Everyday is a school day.

  • i was going to attempt the bolt on solution with one of these old On-One/PlanetX singlespeed freehub bad boys, but

    a) the chain line wouldn't be right - as should be obvious
    b) i've got dumbells lighter than these

BTW the velosolo link shows a fixed gear on a QR skewer. good luck to anyone who tries that :)

  • on second thoughts, i guess i could put a couple of blobs of weld inside that freehub - cheap :)

  • My All City has 135mm dropouts, I've spaced two sets of 120OLN wheels to fit with no issues. Well I had to buy a new 120mm axle as the seller had cut it down for polo.

  • I've been looking for just such a hub and here's my list:
    Mack (according to the website)
    Goldtec (possibly?)
    Velo Orange
    Profile Design (spendy)
Paul doesn't right now but will make some in the Spring (according to Paul)

If you don't mind an MTB chainline:
    Surly
    Phil Wood KISS-off
    Paul ISO/fixed

and you can bodge various generic hubs

  • My All City Nature Boy is 135mm dropouts and I've just space a pair of BLB hubs and a set of Phil wheels out from 120mm with no issues on both sets.

Oops....so good I said it twice...forgive me, beer memory.
