Track chain wear (& cogs & chainrings)

I changed my izumi track chain about five months ago and according to my chain wear tool it is now needing replacement. Seems very short lifespan for a chain, used on a commuter but not everyday and not huge distances- about 10 miles a day. Cog and chainring don't appear visibly warn. These are all 1\8 track components. After how many miles would you expect to change a track chain/cog/chainring?

Did you check the chain before you fitted it. I use the same chain and I always thought that the gaps were rather large to start with.
