Lovely stuff.
On a related 'treat yourself' note, I've got a real hankering for an oldschool (50s/60s/70s) Omega. Doesn't have to be in great condition, in fact a bit of patina would work really well, but I do want it to be automatic and have the glow markers. I actually love the old Seamaster 300s but suspect these will always be v expensive so something dress watchy would work too.
Any recommendations on good place to pick one up?

Got a Junkers for Christmas. Thick but nice. First watch I've had since early teen years. Pretty convenient when it comes to telling the time.

The old Seamaster 300s are lovely. Been wanting one for myself for years but never got around to actually buy one and now the prices are getting steep. Lots of pieces with the wrong parts, shitty relumes, some frankens and even downright fakes out there. Nice looking all original examples are really difficult to find and when they show up they will be expensive. Still its a bargain compared to say a Rolex 5513 and alot more rare. Therefore I believe they will be nice investments for the future.
I used to own a Seamaster 120 (166.027) and they might not be as special but still pretty cool, easier to find and of course alot cheaper. Might be a nice candidate?
Its possible to find vintage watches on Ebay but you really need to know what to look for. Sooo much refinished, polished to death, relumes, fake dials, wrong movements etc etc. Easier but more expensive is to go through a dealer. Havent used him myself but I know that lunaroyster have a good reputation. Chrono24 might be an alternative too but as on Ebay you need to do your homework.

Whoah, that is really bad for the eyes/wallet. Beautiful.
@scottparsley good shout on the 120s, really really nice watches. Suspect my budget might limit me to Frankensteins to be honest, but some good advice here. Maybe keeping a close eye on a reputable dealer would be more useful than waiting for a possibly-knackered bargain on eBay. Hmm.

Those pie pan constellations are lurvely.
I spent an hour or so in an AD yesterday tire kicking Rolex (was entirely honest) and surprised myself by really liking the green glass / blue dial Milgauss. I am not a flamboyant person when it comes to man bracelets, but it is so much nicer in the flesh than in the photos!Still, I know in my heart that it is a 70s panoramic big-date GO that I need, really need. With the blue dial.

I've been looking for an Omega for a while. You can barely move for redials out there. I'd rather have a knackered dial than a badly painted one.

Other option is to buy something with a crappy dial and fit something like this (ie. on a suitably sized cal. 260 watch) :

Nice idea.
I've got £500 burning a hole in my pocket. Its an annoying price bracket to be in. Might as well save a bit more rather than compromise.

That should get you something lovely if you trawl for long enough.

I've bought an old Soviet-era Vostok Komandirskie 2414 from some chap in Ukraine on eBay. Looks alright, in a rugged Russian way. I'll post the obligatory keyboard shot when it turns up. In the meantime, anyone got any info on them/first-hand experience?

Mmmm, Sinn.
I have a real hankering for one of these:

Looks an honest watch to me - replacement strap is Hirsch which is a good sign. Possibly a little too high on the price for gold filled version.

• #17920
That guy is also flogging this which I really like the look of. I'm not an Omega expert - any advice?
-
• #17921
I just bought the gold filled one (accepted lower offer) so I'll let you know if he comes through :D

Good shout. Looks lovely and seller looks to be a fellow watch geek.
-
• #17923
Cheers. I think I may of paid £30 too much for it which is pretty annoying but it looks like a really nice watch so I won't beat myself up about it.

It's an investment brah. I always think about these sorts of things like, if you paid £30 too much for it and you decide to sell it in a year for the original price, then you've basically paid £30 to hire an Omega for a year. Totally worth it.

Had mine for 4 years, gets worn pretty much every day and loses maybe a minute every couple of weeks. Love it. Does anyone know if there are mods for it? Wouldn't mind the face being a little less busy.
Thought it was a Pelagos for a min. 😀
