  • Anyone know where I could get Somec panto'd forks? I got a 57cm frame yesterday and want to get it on the road ASAP. Also, the stickers are kind of fucked. Is there any way of getting them off (to replace them) without ruining the paint job. It seems to be chrome throughout. I really don't have the dollars to see a pro or anything.

  • I have a 1992 ms leader

FUARK! I only saw this one just now. That head tube is amazingly daring :)
So gutted I let go a chrome-lugged galaxy print SOMEC in my size a few weeks ago. Something felt off, but in retrospect, that was probably just the seller being German.

  • There's a pair on the italian bay right now, I think. About a 100 GBP though :B

  • Haha, thanks a lot! Bit pricey really. That's half what I paid for the frame... I just dunno if it's worth waiting.

    It was definitely the German.

  • You are breaking my heart. I'd like to believe I would have been swindled, and lost out on both the money and the frame if I had gone through with the purchase. As it is, I just lost out on the most gorgeous exactly-my-sizest SOMEC I ever had the chance to buy... Now I am looking at these piles of cash lying around, hoping I could put wheels on them. At least I can use the banknotes to dry my tears.

In all seriousness, SOMEC forks don't show up very often. And if your frame had been free, your forks would have seemed even more expensive in comparison. Don't fall for the sunk cost fallacy :)

  • There's a nice Somec for sale here in Belgium. Without original forks. What's the thing with these forks? Didn't they have "own" forks?

  • No clue. Things getting lost in a bike shop's inventory?

  • It always worries me a little when I see older frames sold without forks: the only reason I can think of, is a head on collision that bent the forks...

  • I thought that too but surely it's not too likely that ALL the forks got bashed up? My frame looks pretty sturdy though... maybe the forks are made of tin foil?

  • i thought about putting carbon fork on my MAX Somec...no crashes...just fancied a little more comfort on long rides!

having said that I'd only make the switch for some excellent condition Time straight blades such as these:

then again I'm happy sacrificing comfort for being able to look down at this :D

  • Some nice Somec's here. :) I have a really nice example of a Super Air TT Somec. This one is a 1992 on SLX tubing. According to the catalog it's got some nice championship history.

    I'm entering the club :)
I'll be built up with the Chorus 8v groupset seen on the Classifieds here ( + wheelset, seatpost and freewheel I found already)

It's only missing a stem (shame I didn't get the stem it was on sale here!) and a saddle (which I have, a black Rolls) and handlebar (which I should also have somewhere)

  • @Breso once it's ready we should meet again.

  • Nice large somec for sale

  • I suppose the one comfort with quality steel frames is even if they so take a head on the front end is do strong that unless it's a totally catastrophic impact it rarely damages the triangle.

I bought a Master Olympic years ago that had defo been in a head on and rode it for five years with zero issues. Of course it's a good idea to get the track checked.. IME it's usually just some egit misplaced the forks in a house/shop move. Colnago forks though - shocking $$$s to replace :(

  • Hi guys, I got a stem and seat post both pantographed Somec in red. Both are, however, older than my frame so I will probably not use them.
    Anyone interested?

Just not sure yet about the stem.
But I found a Dira Ace 7400 stem and seat post that all go well with the full Dura Ace group set on my Somec. So...

Also the guy I think still has brake levers and laces if interested in that as well

  • So here's mine. In a few hours I should be able to put a picture with the saddle in its proper position. Or tomorrow morning :)

  • The parts above are still on sale (and I still have to receive all of them)

  • Nice stem, well reflected in its price though...

  • That guy has simply too many Somec pantographed stuff. Actually he has too many pantographed tuff, period.
I think they are all fake, in the sense that he makes them or has someone who makes them for him.

Also, Somec still does the panto for you if you ask and pay them.

  • They're newly made indeed, just old used stems pantographed. They all have the same pattern and horrible colours.

  • Im sure they are fake. The Zeus one is giveaway that they are newly made.

  • indeed....I think I will report him and also send him/them a message
