This seems to suggest the parakeets might not be able to survive in the U.K. without people feeding them (indirectly).

There are thousands up the road from me in Windsor Great Park and they find enough to eat in the beech and chestnuts. They have spread to my neighbourhood as have Red Kites but I don't mind them so much. I get 20 parakeets hanging around like vultures.

Meanwhile the vultures near me have started dying their feathers like parakeets.

Truly the new romantics of the avian world.
